Going Out of Business Possible System Crash at Troy DataCenter

Here is what I am wondering about, if all 750 Kmart stores are shutting down at the exact same time. Does everyone think since the Troy data center has not been properly maintained due to eddies severe cost cutting. Will be able to handle that many stores at once,or do you think it will over load and cause a major system wide crash like before?

Are registers at Sears and Kmart still having severe issues like freezing, ect.?

What does everyone think do you think corporate IT can patchwork the data center to keep it running through the store closing sales? Or do you think it will crash and never be able to be revived?

"I just wish I could have a sip of some 9055 Sears koolaid. I bet that sh-- is Good!"

It's made with real sugar and I always make sure it's served ice cold in Smart Sense rebranded red Solo cups.

But, seriously. Stop the hating. We're all in this together.

Now, now, no name calling. Just like everyone else on this site, 9055 has the right to express their opinion. And you know what they say, opinions are like a--holes, everyone has one and they all stink.

Perhaps all of you should identify yourselves by banner and job title.

Yes, I worked in a store that closed. I moved elsewhere within the company after that closure.

I feel my comments have contributed meaningfully to the conversation here, as have all of the posters.

Thank You for verifying that for me. To the poster "9055" what position did you hold at the Kmart store you worked at? How long ago did your store close?

I know that, I looked online. Store number 9055 does not exist in either Kmart or Sears. So do you work at corporate?

SYWR is heavily promoted at some closing stores but not all (usually ironed out between corporate and the liquidator beforehand.) The reason for the heavy promotion is to capture as much customer data as possible and potentially convert those closing store customers to more engaged SYW users and, to a lesser degree, get them to shop at remaining stores and the Kmart.Com or sears.com. After the store has closed, those closing store shoppers are sent promos to encourage them to shop online or at the "nearby" stores.

That is correct the IBM back office server can handle cash transactions. But here is the problems, at all of the store closing sales, including the one I worked at. SYWR was heavily promoted and customers were still earning points and we were still signing up customers till the last day. The Liqudator still had a 5% off entire transaction coupon that could be used if you had a SYWR account.

So at the closing stores SYWR was heavily promoted and registers came to a crawl.

9055, are you at a Kmart Bannered store? Or a Sears Bannered store?

The Kmart register crashes since the big outage aren't being tracked or reported to IT by stores, bUT probably shold be. We know there are some key sequences that are crashing registers.

Are you asking if all 700+ Kmart stores have store closing sales at the same time, will there be a data overload? Probably not. The biggest problem with overloads has been SYWR. Corporate can take SYWR offline for closing stores and still process credit cards and gift cards with no problems. Alternatively, local POS server can be used but with cash only, as was the case with the day long outage recently.

I thought so, I know the systems at Kmart are in worse shape than the Sears ones. I do not know how old the Sears units are but I know the Kmart ones are 15+ years old.
