Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Laid Off and Don't Give a Sheet

I bit the dust in April and am feeling great. I don't have alot of money, but the robot chevroid, political a-- kissing back stabbing environment is out of my life. I traveled to Dry Fork Virginia to be with a bunch of college friends I have nm ot seen in 38 years. Spent the last 3 days smoking weed, drinking beer and bourbon, and eating rib eye steaks. Man, this is just what I needed. Being out of the arrogant, loser chevron environment has just added 20+ years to my life.

@JywPE3D-9ayf, You poor baby, you're the person who always looks at himself in the mirror and sees a worthless butthurt loser? We all feel so bad for you, sweetheart! The next time that you look at yourself in the mirror and see a pathetic worthless loser, try to give yourself a pep-talk like this one:

1 - I know how to spell.

2 - I know English, I can do it.

3 - Mommy said I was special and just had a little trouble in school, that's why they say I'm special.

4 - I can do it, I can do it, I can spell and use proper English if I only try harder!!

5 - I need to try much harder, because I see an illiterate butthurt loser when I look in the mirror!!!

Congrats on that fine a-- of yours, 5qqi. Take care of it and share it abundantly while you can. Just remember that you live on planet Earth, where age and especially gravity, will slowly take its toll.

@JywPE3D-3kzt --- You're pathetically stupid. Seems your favorite word is "butthurt", which provides insight to your lack of wit, not to mention, low IQ. Here's a News Flash, Cupcake,... you're NOT funny,... and it shows.

-2lhj, you apparently enjoy that, since you have been lying back like a pathetic loser for all these years and accepting those butt-slaps. That Explains why you're so "butthurt" all the time, using the layoff.com lingo - LOL!"

Chevron = Incessant b--ch-slaps, interrupted by the occasional bonus.

Got laid off with the severance package last year. Chevron has been very good to me. I have enough for a happy long retirement, thanks to their generosity. Nothing toxic about it. I have worked at a competitor and can confirm firsthand that it was much worse. I lost a few pounds because I can focus on my health now and get more uninterrupted exercise in. Typical for any office desk job. Nothing horrible or unique to Chevron. There's no neighbors that I need to "get to know" now that I didn't want to "get to know" before. That has nothing to do with Chevron or any job.I have hobbies, same as I had before. They are much like work in many ways. I did them when I felt like it, as I do now. I didn't undergo any strange transformation just because I have more free time. No biggie. Not my first square dance, not my first layoff. Get a grip, people. I never put work before the important things in my life. Didn't then, don't now. If you are that married to your job you will never FIRE and may never be happy.

I left in April 2016 as well and I must say I don't miss work. Catching up on work around the house, did a little travel with more to come. There is indeed life after Chevron and the severance is lasting much longer than I thought it would. Of course getting paid for unused vacation also helped.

While I was working, I traveled quite a bit while on vacation.(no kids). Thought I would want to travel a lot when not working. But I don't really have the urge, even though I can afford it. Have seen plenty of places overseas, etc. Great experiences. Don't regret any of it. But, I'm kind of "Been there, done that" about it now. I like doing easy stuff, driving short trips, fishing, hunting, or just enjoying life at home most of the time. You don't need to be a perpetual tourist to enjoy life. I like where I live. There are a few articles out about people who are so addicted to it that they don't know what to do with themselves when they are at home, like some sort of weird mental condition.

I raised my hand to go. Felt it was the right thing for me in gut after many, many years with cvx. Sure I miss seeing the paycheck grow my bank account. But just like others have posted, the feeling that I'm now living my life for me is priceless.

Some nice posts, herein. @JywPE3D-1vlf,... yours was particularly interesting. Good to hear that folks are moving on with their lives, finding happiness, finding those things that truly matter. Reminds me of the closing scenes from True Romance,... Stay thirsty, my friends.

Laid off from Chevron last year. Since then I have lost 40lbs, brought my blood pressure back to normal, recognized my true friends, went fishing with my father before he died, held my daughter's hand while she gave birth to my grandson, don't hate Sundays, gave away 30 Chevron backpacks, expanded my hobby list, finished house projects, got to know my neighbors, attended every one of my youngest child's school functions, added months to my 100,000 mile warranty, fired my crappy yard guy and dry cleaner, deleted my Linkedin account, posted politically incorrect things on Facebook, and reconnected with my husband and 5 kids! Not much into pot or steaks but these and a nice cold beer on Sunday afternoon or watching the sunrise over the lake is worth the loss of income. 6 units past the decimal are useless when you're 6 units under the dirt. Chevron is toxic, both literally and figuratively.

After 10 years at one company (in a professional role), you might be close to half the average US life span (possibly past that depending on a few factors).

This whole deal with bashing so called "millenials" or current gen is silly and probably the same thing that has happened with pretty much every single generation in history.

Every generation has its share of dumb--ses period.

So my last my term plan was to work 4 more years, but I am think more and more that I basically have enough and I should really get on the moving on. Life to too short and I have lots I want to do before I drop. The travel far and wide to where ever I fancy at the moment with no pre-planning high on my list! Rock on!

Laid off last year and doing well financially, but not blowing through my capital. Wife and I have travelled near and far, wherever we fancy and where our money stretches furthest. I thought all long it was necessary for me to work another 4 years, but I've been reassured several times my early retirement is 100% solid. Life is good. The last 3 or 4 years were taking its toll on my well being. So relieved to be gone from Chevron now. Occasionally, I'm reminded of my goof fortune and say thanks to Chevron, but also feel "Good Riddance". Strange but true.

"4 days of weed, beer, steaks, fishing and listening to 70's rock 'n roll at volume 10 on a big a-- 180 watt/channel stereo, and having lots of politically incorrect man talk."

4 days? Shoot. that's pretty much everyday for me, all day, even on weekends when I was working. No kids, wife works. (She still does). Why is enjoying your life only a 4 day experience? I do cut out the alcohol for some spells to get some Cardio in, but the stereo is still crankin' and steaks and beer are always on the menu!!

I certainly hope you had an RSI workpace break meter on the beer cans so that you could void tennis elbow! ;-).

MY most vivid memory is of my manager, who used to show up to work with a "duffer's cap" on his balding pate. Like a bad tune that gets stuck in the brain, I can NOT seem to shake it. Hope someone has finally told him that he's a total tool. I would have,... except, I didn't want to get canned, just then. (At least,... that's my story.) Vivir una vida plena, mi amigo!

OP, you have the right attitude about truly living life vs. being held hostage by Chevron or money-lust. I am very happy for you in your new freedom. I retired early from Chevron two years ago and felt unimaginable relief and happiness. I can only just shake my head when I think about how CVX runs their biz.

OP here. Well, the glorious trip is almost over. I am on a 200 acre farm with a huge pond full of bass and blue gill. 4 days of weed, beer, steaks, fishing and listening to 70's rock 'n roll at volume 10 on a big a-- 180 watt/channel stereo, and having lots of politically incorrect man talk. What a refreshing change. I do not miss chevron or Houston.
