Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

WIRELINE BACK FROM THE "DEAD"....WIRELESS TAKES A BEATING !!!!

The company’s “Wireline” segment added 90,000 “Fios” Internet connections and 36,000 Fios Video connections in the third quarter. VZ stock’s revenue from the business increased 4.4% from a year ago, driven by a larger customer base, strong customer loyalty, and demand for higher Internet speeds. Its Fios Internet base prefers a speed of 100 megabits per second or higher. “Strong wireline profitability and customer loyalty, renewed Fios growth highlight Verizon’s 3Q results."

Verizon Communications Inc. suffered its worst quarter of subscriber growth in more than six years amid intensified price competition from smaller rivals, adding pressure on the company’s media and advertising ventures to take up the slack for a rapidly maturing wireless business.

The nation’s largest wireless carrier signed up 442,000 total subscribers in the third quarter, falling far short of the 875,000 average of eight analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.

GO CWA/IBEW ! Great job !

God Bless America and God Bless the Union

Dream on! The globalized IT people they are getting are part of the problem. If I were CEO I would clean house and hire on a fresh army of millennial IT people who know what they want and have the skills to build it. If necessary I would overpay programmers from Google to steal talent and get this company back on its feet. Indian programmers can offer nothing but cost savings and headaches.

Yes many variable and many things wrong today with Verison. We look at the customer cervice and the financials cervice. The I T and Network Engineer and tele com install. Global diversity ignored!!

Do not get start on the retail sale. So racism. B 2 B no!

All position can replace by VDSI. Some of the American contractor will require for local works. VDSI direct contractor with the correct tele matic which the Verison already acquire!! Is global vision.

As a tech...I see it every day with wi-fi.....Way to many variables. I just can't possibly see it ever working to a customer satisfaction any time soon if ever!

Reply.....Build it and they will come. Customers despised Comcast, Time Warner and other providers in the NE. Verizon had only to provide reliable service, reasonable cost, and accurate billing....that was the concerns expressed by the customers I had contact with. Word of mouth referrals from satisfied customers also drove the inquiries. I was once a Comcast customer and therefore able to do a comparison. My experience has proven FIOS content and internet speed far superior to Comcast offerings. I also retained my landline phone and it has worked flawlessly on FDV. Bottom line.....build a network second to none.......offer superior content and reliability and the bottom line will take care of itself. However I fear Verizon senior management has missed the train!

@1fzn - Well by virtue of the fact that Verizon leadership invested a lot of time and $$$ on FIOS, we would hope leadership verified there would be plenty of paying customers to return a profit. Right? The fish stinks from the head down.

But since we know that Verizon really has no leadership, it's just a crap shoot at best .... and you don't know the answer either.

" I had many calls asking when FIOS would be built on my street by potential customers"

Question: How many of those customers would sign a long term contract to ensure that the investment earns a return?

These are the same customers that want $49.99 specials for life and have no loyalty to anyone. This is a no win business and it is only going to get worse. What will HBO cost VZ, when they have to purchase it from ATT?

Worked FSC for five years and had to troubleshoot in home wi-fi/wireless connection issues with 2.4 and 5.0 "Gateway router". If one thinks wireless is the answer, you are sorely mistaken as there is too many caveats to each and every installation, not to mention clueless customers whose level of intelligence can only produce screaming in the phone......"Fix it". FIOS and Quantum TV installed for years and I am very pleased with service. Dependable service is very dependent upon good in home infrastructure. Solid connections, quality splitters and cables are a must as Quantum TV demands are high on the infrastructure. With that said......a good hardwired system will run rings around wireless any day. Very troubling to watch Verizon go down the tubes with such inept leadership. I had many calls asking when FIOS would be built on my street by potential customers, very sad to reply......not in the foreseeable future. Experience has proven to me that wireless is for fun and games. If you want to get serious and haul the heavy tonnage, nothing can beat a solid fiber-hardwired connection.

Quick Fact Check: FiOS Q1 (pre-strike) internet adds were 98,000. So, Q3 net adds of 90,000 reflects a poor job,at best. Video subscribers are not growing at all. The Enterprise and Wholesale business is so awful, it was not discussed at all. The ATT acquisition of TW is not going to help with skyrocketing content costs. Time to exit landline.

@K1S6gJd-ove WRONG ! Moron, it was the Wireless elitist that were burning the bridges that the Wireline Union built. It was WIRELINE Money that built Wireless and this very company remember that always !

"Wireline is dead"..."get rid of them", "We can go it on our own" Yeah after squandering and pilfering the Wireline money. had a few good years and now crashing back to earth.

Wireless bit the hand that fed them and now the chickens have come home to roost. Wireless is getting their a$$ kicked every day now as the Wireline steadily rolls on.

Yes because we all know that fios is a very good product that customers want. People want speed and ability to connect all devices.
