Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

70% of workforce is given raises this focal. Did you?

Allegedly 70% of workforce is supposed to get a raise or promotion this focal period.

Did you receive promotion or raise? If so, share details here.

I go first:

raise: 3.8%

I agree with @ajin , right on the nail I am with you there glad to be out of it, just sorry for the friends left behind. My manager was only bothered because he had some blue badged cannon fodder to protect his own position but he is running out of options. wont be long before its his turn

Screw Cisco. You fire people and then hand out promos and rsu's.? Anyone with half a brain should start looking for another gig immediately, even if you got a raise.

I have never seen in my career the amount of arrogant, egotistical, narcissistic pricks and a holes that's in this company. One day, the grim reaper of jobs will hit everyone like a freight train and you will wonder what the hell happened.

I'm glad I'm out of that high school

@ 41go - Grade 8 and 10 Software Engineers impacted at our site, all working on new Cloud collab projects. Collaboration BU doing pretty well in the overall picture too. Go figure! Nobody is safe but TAC will become more important as the quality of product dips further down the toilet having being built by curry contractors who bought their degrees online. Congratulations on your promotion, you've probably earned it!

Calling it "engg" gives away the reason you got your promotion and why you are baffled.

Got promoted to G10 and got excellent raise and PLI bonus. I am bit baffled who is getting laid off. Folks around me are getting promoted and getting good raises. TAC is good place to be. There 4664 TAC/HTTS engg and techical services is having 80% Margins. May be BU/AS/Sales folks are getting laid off. You folks chose to stay in high risk and high reward job profile. Its not all bad In Cisco.

Got 4%, but promised promotions not done because HR says that SP is legacy and they want to lower number of top grades and increase G8-10.

I'd agree with that 1xwn! I am genuinely jealous of the guys leaving with a redundancy payment. Hopefully next time! Maybe we won't have too long to wait if some of the rumours cone to fruition

0% for me. Same as the last 4 years. Part of me wishes I was LR'd this time as there comes a point when it is no longer worth the wait.

All these raises and promotions you folks have recieved - are at the expense of those individuals - mostly very capable, intelligent and hardworking -- who were unfortunately impacted by the last LR - due to their gender, age, or other similar factors.

Eh, don't make people feel guilty for getting (probably less) than what they are due. Blame the company for not doing it a different way.

I am a G10, and at the top of the pay grade from what I understand. Got a nice mid and year-end PL&I (above rate) due to generous manager - but promotion, RSU and raise for me this year.

Got a very good review at the end of the last fiscal year and an extra 5% on my bonus like lots of others. 3 months later......getting laid-off, no RSUs and no promotion. Got the 'whisper' from my Manager.

When I get my LR letter next week I'm not sure I care to look around internally and stay. Already have a handful of possibilities available to me because of my good work and reputation as a 'doer'.

Been here 10 years. I haven't been promoted in 7 years, haven't seen an RSU in over 5 years and I feel like in my late 40's, this is a constant game of SURVIVOR from here on out. Couple that with the shrinking benefits and the low pay versus the rest of the industry and sadly, I think it is time to go.

Maybe it would be different if I was in the Sales Dept. here? Don't hear much complaining from those people here.

Who knows. Been a good run and that has come to an end. Good luck to whomever else decides to stay.

So a bunch of us go something, not enough to keep up with even the meager inflation rate.

A few (10% or so) got pretty big awards, including RSU.

And then a large number got nothing, again, and again.

And you Very Special Lucky Ones wonder why you work with "deadwood" and curmudgeons? When the company is not willing to even throw a bone to the rank and file, they give up. And I don't blame them.

This kind of thing instills a toxic workplace.

In the halcyon days, at least you knew everyone got options and had some skin in the game. Sure, some got a lot more than others, but at least you could all talk about your options, because you all had them. Not anymore. Some of the Very Special Ones go around prancing and dancing expecting everyone to do the same. Well, we ain't gonna dance when we got no music to dance too. Sorry, go dance somewhere else.

4% for me. I consider this a little dissappointing to be honest. Given the time since last raise, and degree of my contributions I honestly feel I should be given more. If I'm getting 4% and my lazy coworker gets 6%, than I think something is wrong. I still like the work I'm doing, but feeling undervalued by my management chain makes me think if I'm really in the right place.

Given RSUs during this focal. I ain't no spring chicken. I have received RSUs in the past but it has been 2 years since last award. Should I be alarmed more than usual??

Step 9 : lacking any real technical knowledge and any real engineering operations/execution capability chuckles and the band throw darts at the wall to use newly found dollars to acquire companies in lieu of internal development.

Step 10: existing engineers have to clean up the crap of the newly "sure bet" acquisition to integrate into existing Cisco technology. All while managers throw around terms like agile, ci/cd.

Step 11: Cisco sales argues endlessly on how they can be properly compensated on Sales of the new company.

Step 12: Cisco tac argues endlessly about why they can't support the newly acquired company until blah blah blah is completed.

Step 13: now rinse and repeat and go back to step 1.

Listen, you guys who think there haven't been raises don't get it. Here's the playbook for a US-based Cisco layoff:

Step 1: Decide whom you're going to fire. La Cosa Nostra rules in effect: don't make any notes about this or write anything down explaining why; no spreadsheets or emails, only phone calls or walks around the building if so.

Step 2: Round up some managers you're not going to fire (just yet) and get them trained on how to fire people. Do this a week before you fire everyone.

Step 3: Late in the afternoon, the day before the ax falls, schedule "an important meeting" between all your deputy firing managers and each of the to-be-fired for the following morning. Follow up with a phone call or voicemail to ensure that the to-be-fired show up. This is typically on a Monday so you can fly in any managers that need to be flown in for the culling.

Step 4: In the firing meetings, each firing manager tells the person who's being fired that a "business decision" has been made to "eliminate your position" and for any questions, please see HR. Repeat these points ad nauseum in response to any questions. Tell the person they don't need to show up anymore, even though they'll still be on payroll for a few more weeks.

Step 5: When all the firing meetings are over, convene a meeting with the survivors - same day, typically in the afternoon. Tell them that a "business decision" has been made that "impacted" some of their colleagues. Reassure them that the Cisco business is strong, but this "business decision" requires "realignment" of "resources" and now they are responsible for new things.

Step 6: Meet with all the individual survivors 1:1 and tell them it's business a usual, Cisco is on a solid financial footing, and you are looking forward to another great year with the (newly shrunken) team. Act as if nothing has really changed.

Step 7: Deliver raises to everybody, push some promos through, etc. - after all, there's budget now that you've just fired a bunch of people! Hope that the best people you were counting on not to bolt are mollified by the lavishing of gifts and stay.

Step 8: Breathe a sigh of relief until next year at the same time.

I got my raise, but Cisco still do not get it. I came to Cisco back then not because of the compensation, but more for the technology, the learning, the culture and the leadership. Now that I am a little older, compensation is somewhat more relevant, but still those other things are much more crucial. Drank the kool-aid, believed in the company, worked very hard for the company and get recognize for it, but Cisco needs to fix the core problems. Cisco, please fix the culture, trim the fat, reduce the politics, save the good people, right the ship before good people are adandoning it and new talented folks look elsewhere.
