Close to 80 very effective Jabber contractors in Belgrade have not had their contracts renewed by Cisco. Wonder does this mark the end of jabber? Jobs allegedly outsourced to China.

Agreed, Jabber has had some shaky turns along the way, but at least now it's functional and the UI isn't too bad. Leave it be - we're all comfortable with it. But Spark is terrible. Yet another (yawn) social, collaborative blah blah tool. Yeah, well, I don't need it.
Very sad if Jabber is reaching its EOL. After several failed attempts to build a decent client, and reinventing the wheel a few times along the way, I actually like Jabber. Spark on the other hand is not going to have near the impact Cisco hopes for. It's mediocre at best and a horrible user experience. I wish the team in Serbia all the best finding replacement work outside of Cisco but no doubt your parent company will have more contracts ready to go. If Cisco don't want to pay a respectable price for excellent Engineering talent, and prefer to send the work to China, then that speaks volumes for the distance our once great company has fallen.
Please do not compare Vindaloo Contractors with those in Belgrade, Serbia. Chalk and Cheese, and Ive worked closely with teams in PStech of Belgrade and Infosys in India aswell as other offshore Indian teams. Education, qualifications and skill sets in Serbia are top rate.
Serbia is less expensive, no doubt about it. Less qualified/effective? No way. Those men and women are solid.
India > Serbia > China > ?
Wonder where the next low cost, third world, 'code sweatshop' will be? It's all about shaving that $0.35 so you can spend thousands fixing sh1t output. So short-sighted.
Spark is still very much in the dogfood phase of its life cycle. On the other hand, customers, millions of them, actually like Jabber. Typical shisco.
They weren't just Jabber - they were mostly MeetingPlace (the thing prior to WebEx). Sad to hear! This was an excellent team.
