Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Is Cisco AS better than Engineering for job growth and stability?

I know job stability and Cisco don't get along but I am just keen to know if there is a safe place to hide from the storm in Cisco. I have seen Sales, Marketing, Engineering impacted widely in last few LRs, not much impact on AS. On top AS grew 7% in last Q. So AS is better choice than Engineering in Cisco for relative job stability?

There's always a year-end furlough the last week of Dec. Has been since '08 or '09. Employees have to take 3 or 4 days of PTO the last week of Dec, at least in the US/Canada. Nothing new about that.

Question is, are they letting contractors go? Seems odd to not be at quarter end because then Cisco has to cancel the contract they have with the consulting firms.

AS reqs are frozen now despite of 7% growth last quarter .. this tells me that AS is also not immune

In the past AS tended to be safer. I was in AS and was hit this past September.

Growth no longer appears to be a safety blanket. It's the same in Collaboration - solid growth the last two years and now cuts all over the place. Been through many years of this and this year feels different - not strategic and very short term focused.

Don't use growth as a safety measure. Security was up 15% at the end of last year and has seen layoffs ever since, the last two quarters.

TAC profile seems to be more safer at this point of time. Technical services is growing big. AS is not immune to layoffs. After sales and BU, AS is more vulnerable. But if you can cross skill and move across technologies, then AS profile is good.
