Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How many are planning to hand their notice in before Xmas?

I've received an offer from a great company and feel really excited about a new start! Going to hand my notice in before the Xmas break. Anyone else? I get the sense there are a lot of people planning to.

Foot has been well and truly off the throttle with quite a while now. The final straw was seeing some of my good friends getting LR'd in Q1. Going for a second round interview on Thursday so hopefully my days here are numbered.

In the UK too and going to leave as soon as I have a job offer. Checked out of Cisco now and doing the minimum to leave with a good reputation and a solid job to go in to.

Cisco is a sinking ship, it's time to evacuate.

2qtl, Yes, I quit only after getting another offer.

I was frustrated for over a year and started looking for jobs. When I heard about layoffs, the search became more intense and finally got an offer. I put my papers on the same day of layoffs.

If you have a group of competent co-workers that you like to work with but can't take the b---s--- in the company anymore, consider marketing yourself as an entire team to another employer and then all resigning simultaneously. This is becoming a more common occurance in Cisco. It is worth it just to see the expressions on the executive managements faces on the day of the mass resignations. This can be really fun.

2pva, Did you wait until you had something new lined up?

Jumped ship two months ago. Staying back at Cisco is not worth it.

And to hear Chuck talk about the ELT having fun. God, what a kick in the teeth.

You bust your behind for 15 years with many promises, only to see your friends get nuked.

Yeah, you will throttle back. Especially with an ELT that has no clue as to the pain in the trenches.

A large proportion of the Engineering team here in Ireland thinking on the same lines OP. Its hard to know if it's worth sticking around for the payout or just get out now, but I've honestly never experienced such a dejected morale in my entire professional caree. Some of the recent promotions to Director level have only served to compound an already bad situation. #jobsfortheboys

I've actually been on the road quite a bit lately. Customers, roadshows, etc. during which I've talked to a LOT of senior Cisco people (IC) and just staggered at the dispirited morale I hear everywhere. Dispirited, disengaged and just dog-gone tired. The most common question I hear is that where people are asking themselves "why am I doing this?" These are people that really pushed their max for Cisco over many years and now are just throttling back. It's somewhat heartbreaking to hear. I just had a senior SE explain that one AM for a global SP account was laid off after having just won a major deal: "if they are doing that to him, how long have I got?" I talked to one BU expert yesterday who's quit, because he just doesn't think it's worth it any more (him having to do more and more across global time zones as they laid off any help he had). He's basically a global expert in one of our s-xy new products, there's nobody to replace him, even if they wanted to.

Most people you talk to over 45 are really resigned to the fact that they'll be whacked within the short or medium term, no matter what they achieve or how they perform. They are acting accordingly.

Good job ELT. Takes skill to make disillusioned a whole employee population whilst you still have a healthy and profitable business.

"wh--e" in the post below is the contraction for "who are" -- talk about an aggressive profanity filter!

It's sad -- I know a ton of folks who really just want to kick a-- at Cisco wh--e job-hunting because they can't risk getting LR'd and having to take something random somewhere to keep the bills paid (this's serious for G11/12/89 folks, wh--e too expensive to just waltz into gigs like more junior peeps can). And since Fran made it startlingly clear that HR's completely outta touch even for HR, there's little trust in anything we're being told.

In my decades I've never seen such broad lack of confidence in an entire executive team....

If you delay until the new year, can you collect your 2017 vacation?

I'm not sure about other countries, but in the US, you accrue PTO at a rate of 6+ hrs per pay period ( Annual # of PTO days * 40 / 26 ).

You only get paid for those hrs you've accrued but not used.

Other countries, other rules. Which country are you in?

Yep. Been a high achiever at Cisco for years getting multiple Sales Champions. Was treated like a child last week during month end which now feels more like year end. This year has ruined Cisco for me. Management don't know how to handle stressful situations as they've ridden the wave for so long. Time to move on.

Congratulations and happy new year to all who are able to achieve escape velocity in time for the new year. Life is better outside of Cisco.
