Contractor layoff before Christmas rumor--need details

Rumors are swirling saying all contractors at Cisco will be forced to take an unpaid furlough in the week prior to holiday shut down. Has anyone heard more details about this?

It's bad enough the whole agile movement is not working and now you want to reduce headcount and release every quarter? Glad I don't work there anymore.

It's just a rumor. Why they would lay off red badges. It doesn't make business sense for me. Isn't it cisco principle to hire more red badges and reduce overall blue badge headcount.

Most blue badges in my team will tell you they are just there to collect a check and really don't care about the company as long as it has money in the bank. Our VP has no plans of converting red into blue it does not make business sense to him. That's just life if you don't like your situation move on don't get into a romantic pickle it's not worth it life is too short.

When I was a red badge (intern) I certainly didn't get any of the massive overhead that Cisco paid the agency.

This agency literally handled payroll (I was interviewed, hired, and managed by blue badges), for which they got a handsome premium on top of my actual salary.

I was treated relatively well though. Probably better than when I got that blue badge!

Do you know blue badges who were laid off and brought back as contractors? Bingo!

I'm not buying into your theory. They're not allowing ex-blue badges back for 6 months. If they're converting blue to red, it's not w/ the same people. And they don't need to reduce red badge head-count first. I've seen first hand over the past five yrs where teams would lay off blue & immediately hire replacement red. My own team replaced me & another blue w/ red this quarter.

Who cares about red badgers? We pay them extra over blue badgers to buy flexibility - they should just do what they're asked and like it!

And do you like it when you're forced to take your time off at a time not of your choosing? Or are otherwise screwed?

I certainly wasn't paid extra for the flexibility. Cisco may have paid extra, but the consulting company providing the contractors is the one getting the extra $'s, not the red-badgers.

I'm glad I don't work with you, you douch bag.

red badges are not paid well. when I was a red badge, it totaled out to an entire month of not working - they furloughed us one week a quarter twice. Add that to the 2 weeks unpaid during shutdown totals one whole month.

Start jumping the moment you hear they are buying stock back.

Got to go as deep as it takes to fund executive cash bonus and equity awards. That's going to take some cutting and sacrifice.

The plan is to have blue badge convert to red badge. To do this you have to make room by removing red badge head count. This is happening already, they're is a project going on behind the scenes to test this theory. Do you know blue badges who were laid off and brought back as contractors? Bingo!

This cost cutting thing is reaching an alarming level. Starting to wonder how deep we will need to go to keep the lights on?

@KEjsjAL-whm

Who do you mean by we?

I, you, he and she don't pay none. It's Cisco that pays us all. And it can get rid of us anytime, whatever is ourbadge's colour

This happened 10 years ago and it hit the fan. Worked out for some of the contractors they demanded 30% more and they got it.

I care about red badgers -- the ones I've worked with were dedicated to our product's success irrespective of their employment arrangement
