Denial is a river in Egypt. Perhaps you deny that IBM had to pay an Emirates company $1billion to take POWER chips off their hands, or that 90% of R&D and support personnel for AIX are gone, or, for that matter, nearly 1/3 of the company has been layed off amid 5 years of declining revenues every quarter.

Linux, Open Source, and Cloud will rule the world.
It's too bad a few commenters on this site want to make comments about other companies and products they know nothing about. Too bad what is happening with Solaris & SPARC as they both have a great history which many of us worked with for years.
IBM (I am not with IBM) made a change with 7.1 where they wanted to avoid constant new GA releases as it was disruptive to clients as ISV tend to support 2 releases. They could roll-out a new version every 2-3 years, forcing their customers to wait on ISV's to certify product & features on the new OS. OR, IBM could release Technology Levels to the current version. These TL's would deliver the feature & fix enhancements needed so clients had ISV product version stability.
FYI on the GA for the current 3 AIX releases.
AIX 6.1 GA'd November 2007
AIX 7.1 GA'd September 2010
AIX 7.2 GA'd December 2015
This post could have been made 6 years ago. IBM cut development and support resources for AIX in 2009 and has done only one major release since 2010.
