Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I know what Sears could do to be the top retailer in the USA

There is one thing that Sears could do right now that would not only put more customers in its stores and ordering online from them, just one thing. They could change their store to a "made in the USA" store. Only sell stuff made in the USA. At one time that is all they sold, now it is time they went back to it. There are thousands of different items that they can sell, not everything is made overseas. I bet if they did that, customers would just take a trip to their store to see what they had. It would be a great alternative to the Walmart crap.

People cant have it both ways. Most people want made in the USA, with a lifetime gurantee, customer service that is excellent and can give a time within 1 hour for service, products that last for 20 years and all while paying below what it cost to manufacture and pay workers a decent wage and have to defend themselves from numerous frivolous lawsuits etc. Not bashing anyone or any company but the consumer needs to take a little blame for things. if you want made in USA buy shoes from some of the great US companies, but don't complain when you pay 20-30% more.

Lots of stuff is US made. Its just not at a price point that will satisfy the only shoppers Sears has left.

It won't work because we won't come back to even see if its for real.

I would rather buy made-in-China Harbor Freight tools than Craftsman anymore regardless of country of origin. The Craftsman warranty has been next to meaningless for 10 years now since the quality of the replacements has gone down and down and down. At flea markets Craftsman is now mixed in the $0.50/$1 boxes with the other junk brands. Meanwhile Harbor Freight is growing and making serious improvements in their products and has committed to do even more. Some of their tools are now very serious contenders for even pro's who aren't stuck on a logo.

Kenmore and Sears service has been s**t since the 80's. They treated my mom like crap in the 80's and lost numerous households forever as a result. My current house came with 2 Kenmore appliances. The "Elite" dishwasher was a total POS that did little more than splash water around. The low end Bosch we bought to replace it is light years ahead. The "Elite" microwave is falling apart and I'll probably jump on the next open box deal I see at Lowes. Thank goodness they are "Elite" because the others must be a whole lot worse.

I did give Sears a chance once on name brand appliances once about 10 years ago. I knew the models I wanted and the sales guy quoted me 10% over MSRP. When I pointed that out he said bring my best deal back and he'd try to match it I'll never be back--easier to just take the best deal.

Sears is dead to me. No gimmick will get me back.

Sadly, USA doesn't make anything anymore.

Not really feasible in the modern, global economy. It would be nearly impossible to stock a store with only "Made in USA" products. Either we don't make the products at all or the companies that do are to small to produce the amount needed to stock a store, or there is only one company that produces a product. example: New Balance-- the only running shoe made in the USA

If vendors of Chinese made products won't provide sears with inventory I don't know what would make you think that US manufactures would trust this titanic of a company

Sears has actually been moving away from made in the USA in order to save money. Their iconic Craftsman brand was known for being made in the US and having a lifetime warranty. Now, many Craftsman tools are made in China and have 90-day warranties. Do they Really think that consumers won't notice a difference? I recently purchased a Craftsman tool that was made in China and it was defective. I exchanged it for a replacement and it was also defective. As a consumer, I am done with Sears, and so are a lot of other people. Genius Eddie Lampert has succeeded in running this iconic American retailer into the ground.

It would be nice if KCD were made in the USA exclusively. That would help.

That and more than about 5 weeks worth of operational cash.

That would be an impossible switch. But a nice thought.
