Thread regarding Sears layoffs

90 Hours In Nine Days

I like to be one of the smart alecs that write some of the satire here. Those of who post here still care about what we do and we will help each other. Eddie is not going to take that away from us. My manager needs a day off and asked if I would consider switching days off so he be with his wife on her birthday and go to their kids hockey tournament. My only question was if I am going to get paid for the 30 hours I was shorted last pay period even though I am salaried? I will have 120 or more hours in the pay period so will I get paid for that PLUS the 30 hours, ten of which are overtime? What a mess. It has been documented though.

Given my background in ag, the hours don't bother me much.

Most people would just say "FU", but not me. So I am now 30 hours into nine days in a row of 10 hour shifts and several with no other manager to relieve me for lunch break. I did that to help out the people who work around me. I am not hurting for cash. That is not the point all of what I am doing. My wife is not very happy about this but we been married for a long time so it's OK.

I watch the stawk market just as many of you do and I read the same articles as you do. This morning's SHLD financial loss report was twice as bad as I thought it would be. EPS was almost $7 per share? WHAT??? And operational losses were 748 for Q3. Even I am stunned. That does not leave much operational cash.

There are some folks out there who wonder about SHLD's stock price rise today. Well, the stock is a zombie because no one trades it so all it takes a small buy to send the price green and watch the puts options expire worthless. Eddie and Bruce own most of the stock anyway.

The one question is how Seritage will manage to survive. That is complicated. Eddie has a plan I am sure and I have had one too.

To be honest with you all, I think it has something to do with not wanting to leave you behind just yet. The handwriting is on the old green chalkboard for me as for Sears future. I don't like starting something I can't finish though.

You are good people. Might as well finish the game.

You know that I love you guys and gals that have to be out there saying they are sorry for the state of affairs. I am one of you. I took some abuse today from customers today with two rookie techs on staff and just me running front of shop.

"I need a new battery RIGHT NOW and a cheeseburger with fries and Cream soda." No appointments. I it want RIGHT NOW. "NO"... I replied. "Well, Hmpff, I want to to speak to the manager." the retort would be. "I am the manager."

No. Dial 911 if you need to.

So what if they fire you, they are going to lay everyone off very soon. Get your hours and money while you can.

Home office is not going to approve overtime. You aren't supposed to work over, even as a manager, if you aren't exempt and you punch a clock. They may even fire you for working over since they do not want to pay any overtime unless a store is in the process of liquidation. This is why they made all the asst mgrs non-exempt and now make them punch a clock and not work over their standard 48 hr week.

What I need to do, it to do what I need to do best and that is grow plants. My future is not cars. I took a break because of my wife and children and she knows that my decision is made. I took advantage of what I could.

My future is plants but not the agronomy plants. My degree is in horticulture. I do and have done numerous community gardens.(fruits and vegetables) And "Yes", if you have to ask. I could easily pass any drug test. I see that industry as were I belong as a professional and I don't do any drugs...right now.

Who knows? I would love to be in charge of a legal marijuana grow operation but is it legal federally? I see so many problems that I can't do what I want to do. I have a wife and two children, do you really think I want to sit around and get stoned all day long? NO. Do I want to sit around and work for Sears all day and burn through cash and end up on the street? NO.

How do you balance what I should be doing with the ridiculous laws? I am not a pothead but I have smoked. People brew beer and don't get drunk on the job. There is a way.

I can do retail and sales but what I really love is just working with plants.

Explain that to my wife who has never hit the pipe in her life. She is not making that much money.

I think I know my next move. That is what I hooked up via Sears Auto. Every car I own are all serviced and ready to go out west SYW VIP Platinum style. New everything at a discount.

My she is a he and I am a he as well. I don't mind helping out. I would just like to get paid for it. I am a manager but I am SNE so I have to punch the clock.

If I go for 90 hours for 9 days straight that will be the litmus test. How many can people can say that they would do that for Sears after getting "robbed" 30 hours the pay period before? I still have more hours scheduled on that two week schedule and who knows what happens.

I am going to do it and I am going to do it for all of you it make me wonder how badly so many of you have been robbed of hours. I am going to create a benchmark for us. I am a newbie to SHLD so I will take that abuse. I used to be a golf course Superintendent and made a lot more money then with Sears. Another failed industry the golf business is. I have worked at five courses in the last 20 years. I hate golf courses because there are golfers on them that ruin everything. It's a 100 hours a week job. I think I will manage just fine with 90 in nine days. It is hard on my wife and kids but they are used to it. I did sales in the green industry for 7 years.

I ended in up in Sears Auto. It is important to see every single facet of what goes on. You meet a lot of folks and you meet some talented ones who are neglected. Obviously there are jerks by they are everywhere.

Finding people that actually care about what they are doing is pretty rare. I care though. You care too. That is what make us better then they are.

Fight club.

If you truly feel like you gotta finish it out by all means do it but know that there is plenty of compnaies out there that would love to have a hardworking loyal associate and would treat you with so much more respect and integrity than what SHC does. This company asks for everything out of you including time away from your family, I learned this first hand, but when a company demands that it has the responsibility of giving you the respect you deserve. If your mind is set then best of luck however I will say this any company at this point is better than working for that joke of a business and it will be a lot easier to find something now than when thousands of people are out of jobs and the credibility of sears on your resume erodes even more. Good luck to you

My guess is that she doesn't mind you working so much right now and not spending as much time at home as she'd like because she knows that you'll soon be spending a LOT more time at home once your job is eliminated once Sears Holdings goes out of business (and according to Fitch it'll likely happen within the next two years too!).

I think I will wait it out also. It's sad to see this company go down hill. Management did it to us. No cashiers, too many coupons at the register, takes too long to get check out. Inventory low, name brands disappearing, nothing exciting about Sears. Be real about the problems, don't sugar coated the problems. After all we are transforming to a integrated retail company. Hang in there.
