Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Open office is a BAD idea...do your homework Honeywell

http://blogs.wsj.com/atwork/2014/02/25/study-open-offices-are-making-us-all-sick/

http://www.inc.com/geoffrey-james/why-your-company-will-benefit-from-getting-rid-of-open-office-spaces-first-90.html

Honeywell is going to spend $10 million to implement what other companies have already figured out doesn't work. Increased sick time and 40% decreased productivity. Nice job always being behind the curve Honeywell!

Torrance just finished open concept in Bldg. 22 1st floor... 2nd floor is next. What a stupid waste of money.

We're doing it in Redmond and it s---s. No personal space, smaller cubes, if you need to discuss something in private, you must go to a small booth that has a phone in it to make the call.

Oh but we can sit anywhere we want to if we can find a place.

Does anyone know when and what sites are being targeted for this?

I use Libre Office myself (www.libreoffice.org). I find it very user friendly and light weight. It is actually based on Open Office (www.openoffice.org). Couple that with Linux Mint 18 (www.linuxmint.com) and you got really sweet setup. Does very well on older PCs, since the OS optimizes itself depending on what type of hardware it's running on. I recommend it.

Wow, how did someone hear about this possibility of the "open office" setup? I don't understand why the higher-ups keep changing policies and regulations for the worse all the time here in Honeywell...

I quit a job that did this. It was loud and so distracting that I could not work at all. Also the bosses sat directly behind you and it was nerve wracking. Same feeling as someone standing over you shoulder while you were working. The worst part was the noise. There were some people that chatted incessantly all, day, long.

Hey @KMID8eH-kkn - The OP is not talking about software. Open Office concept will have us all sitting crammed together with only pony walls between desks. You think it is noisy now with the higher cubical walls, just wait. The concept should be called "Zero Privacy Office". On the flip side, now we can really collaborate with each other!

LOL!

"Honeywell would never replace Microsoft office. Though open office is similar there are a lot of differences and they would pretty much need to retrain everyone. I doubt the licenses are that expensive anyway, they pay an enterprise rate."

Please tell me your comment was a joke, because if it wasn't, then you've just shed light on why Honeywell is going downhill.

If the end of Honeywell is near, why is their stock price almost up too $120.00 a share? The company must be b-sing the investors on a grand scale.

Are we talking bringing back the "bullpen" of yesteryear? Open room with all desks facing the same way. The higher up you are in the hierarchy the further back you are in the sea of desks? I love it, just from the nostalgia standpoint, but then again I am retired !!! Woo hoo.

This would pi$$ me off more than the new WFH policy, furloughs, and RIFs. Co-workers are SO fricken distracting as it is. Even in the cube environment, distractions are almost intolerable. Any manager on this site needs to fight this to the death. It will guarantee the end of Honeywell (probably already too late).
