Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Those of you who complain about how much you hate Eddie and sears but still work there..

Can someone please explain this to me? If you don't like your position in an obviously tainted company...why don't you just cut your losses and leave now? The company can't be saved anyway so would you rather him give up quickly and liquidate the company quickly (meaning you would have lost your jobs years ago) or do it the way he's been doing it stretching out its death as long as possible so he can Benifit from its closure, as crooked as that is. I'm not trying to take up for or hate on anybody but the fact that people would rather stay and complain rather than take accountability for their own lives is kinda..well..dumb.

I get the frustration. I worked at sears for a number of years in appliances before I got tired of watching my company sabotage my store and myself using online prices, online only deals, free delivery without having to use a sears card, gouging our commission over and over again while claiming we would be paid the same amount over a period of time anyway, offering cheaper protection plans than what I can offer in the store (don't even get me started about PAs) and commissioned phone associates pretending to be in my store to steal sales and had more power to manipulate prices than I did.

So I quit.

Its really not that difficult to monkey branch (find another job before you actually quit) to another job, especially working at sears. It's not like the bar is set that high anyway.

Some have been at Sears or Kmart a long time and are hoping to ride it out in order to collect pension. Some are older and will have a difficult time finding another job with the rampant age discrimination that for some reason is allowed to go on by our government. For those who don't fall into those categories it would be wise to get out NOW before the job market is flooded with ex Sears and Kmart employees all competing for the same jobs. I got out already for that very reason.

1xck--No skin in the game here. Never worked for Sears and haven't been to Sears in at least 15 years. I can see the people who still work there complaining. Many have probably worked there for many years and remember when it was a great company. They are probably hoping they get their retirement and pension but really dont know if they will. Not a good place to be.

Some of these people use these boards to vent their frustrations because they know management has a deaf ear to any type of criticism of the "almighty SHC"

Some are angry, hurt, betrayed by a company, that probably promised them the world, and then pulled the rug out from under them. Welcome to the working world.

Some I would think are just too old to try to start again, are hard to hire because of age or schedule etc.

Some are investors trying to get some inside info on the company for investment purposes.

Whatever the reason, that is what forums and boards like this are for. To vent, complain, inform and generally share a common experience with others.

Why does it bother you so much if someone stays at a crappy job? They have their reasons: financial, life stage, age, no other options. Have you never complained about a job? Have all your bosses been the best and the company you worked for treated you right and paid you what you are worth? And why does it bother you that they want to spend their time posting on a message board? Just asking because you seem a little angry. Have a good day

*Not necessarily that people who take the bus to work all behave like the poster.

Also, I think that poster was referring to the poster based on the fact that they say they take the bus to work. Not necessarily they people who take the bus to work all behave like the poster...or that's what I got out of reading that post. Ironically..I believe a major problem in today's society is the fact that people are quick to jump to conclusions. They're quick to get butt hurt and emotional for little to now reason.

The bus poster is probably a troll trying to push your buttons by the way. I figured that was obvious and no one would take it seriously but I guess not.....

I can only imagine what "requirements" you don't meet...anyway. Yeah, I get the fact that sears hires pretty much anyone who's willing to work for the wages but there seems to me a good amount of people here who don't fall into that category. I see people here who seem to be good employees who feel unappreciated and cheated and I just wonder why they don't just take their work ethic elsewhere.

Most people who post here fall into three categories:

1: someone who is a current employee of sears who's dissatisfied with how the company is ran. These people come here and make sarcastic comments about how working at sears is absolutes hell etc etc

(These people are who I question)

2: someone who is here because they were ALREADY laid off. These people come here making threads about how they pray sears goes bankrupt so that they can finally get their revenge, posts linking the latest bad press related to sears, and other generally "salty" posts.

3: people who worked for sears and found this forum but no longer work for sears due to leaving on their own terms. I've seen a few posters like this who actually make posts but judging on the amount of views vs posts these threads get I'd assume most of these people are just here watching to see how this plays out. Generally their posts are neutral.

And I guess technically you have a fourth group to include the occasional oddballs who support sears and believes it will truly turn around.

I don't think taking a bus to work has anything to do with talent. It is a choice or if you live in a major city it is the only logical thing to do. I have a degree in electrical engineering and work for a defense contractor, I have never owned a car and have taken the bus to work for the last 15 years. It is condescending, judgmental, a**shats like you that have made the world what it is today.

I work in a kmart store where a few months ago our footwear lead was let go because the position was cut. She reapplied and came back as a lead making $1.00 per hour more for the same level position. Absolutely no incentive for good employees to stay. Minimum wage goes up and then supervisors are making the same as the employees they are supervising. Our store looks like a slum and supposedly we are in the "top 200" kmart stores. I'd hate to see the bottom 600 stores. I guess at least we are still turning a profit for the company.

I can tell you that the talent pool is garbage. Who else at this point still pays minimum wage in retail?!?!?!?! You pay for what you get and that's what happens all talent goes elsewhere because even at the lowest level they see that the company is not going anywhere and they can make more money elsewhere that is going to be around. The idea of paying less because of the great "incentives" they have with credit and store to home don't even make up the gap to the base earnings at competitors. What's worse is that there is people making more money as regular associates at places like Walmart than leads and the new "supervisors" at Sears without any responsibility. If you are still employed there stop complaining about the treatment and the hours and spend your time looking elsewhere because it is a guarantee that no matter your efforts your store is closing regardless... and soon

The poster who takes the bus to work is a prime example of the high quality talent that Sears is left with after its implosion. They cant attract any talent, all the talent that is already there has left already, they only pay minimum wage so the only employees they get do not know proper grammar or how to spell.
