i got hired in 2013. I graduated from Wisconsin. My base for 2016 is $ 110,000 . I am on grade 6. I recently got offer from ARM in Austin for $ 120,000. Plus stocks and senior position equivalent of grade 7. I recently mentioned this to my intel manager . He is trying to negotiate a huge salary hike of 8,000 k. Is Austin better or Portland . What's grade 7 salary in Hillsboro ?

There's never been a tornado in Austin. There are a few rare occurrences in the outlier burbs.
Enjoy your 6 months of rain in PDX, your very high state income tax, your high real estate prices due to retarded zoning policies, the meth heads that wander around everywhere, your mono-culture and finally your low salaries that Intel can impose since there is nowhere else to go in PDX.

Austin offers great quality of life. The Austin economy is diverse and the cost of living is low compared to Portland. Leaving Portland to land in Austin, with higher pay, would be an easy decision.

You'll immediately notice how much better it is.
I have no idea why people with a choice would live in Portland.
If someone asked me what I thought of Austin, I'd say hot and weird (and they're proud of it). But Portland is WAY worse. They're psychotic weird, almost militant if you disagree with them.

Leave unless you have a specific reason to stay in PDX. Austin has way more opportunity. Also, If you get big raises you will be getting lower raises in future years because of the Focal tool.
I'm not even gonna get into how Intel is rotting from inside and will be only getting worse in the next few years.
I'm grade 6 with a base of 90. I also started in 2013. I got totally screwed and am way underpaid.
Austin is a much, much better place to live than lowly Portland (ugh).

Take the offer and run, management never likes people who looked and have offers outside. You looked means you are going to leave. Also now that you know their are greener pasteurs you will never be happy always wanting more, dead meat in next focal!
By the way a $ in Austin is with more than same $ Portland. You also want to unload your property in Portland before the next ACT!
