Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

"Site Audit" in Clearwater

I just had some lady come walking through my area with a seating chart and checking off names. Normally, I wouldn't really notice, but she said, "Nothing to worry about, just checking to see who's where". Wierd..... Looking to see who's remote? Or, are they around so we can lay them off? I don't trust anyone around here who says, "Nothing to worry about."

They just finished phase one of the open concept office space at Torrance. There will be a bunch of Millennials listening to music on their phones with earbuds, surfing the internet and social media. This will last as long as there is old timers to do the work for them.... Can't wait to retire from this place... so tired of hearing "it's not my job" or "I sent an e-mail"

Coincidence that a 20-yr vet has never seen this before, and now at the end of a year of draconian employee treatment they are only "figuring the seating chart"?? C'mon, we weren't born yesterday. Reliable source has it that CWD is going "open office" at the start of next year. This is also just coincidental, right?

An optimist would say they are moving to "open office" in order to improve teaming and attract younger hires. Someone a bit more jaded - e.g. me, a 30-yr vet who hasn't ever seen treatment (and "get out NOW" office attitude) this bad in all those years - might tend see this as a furtherance of what recent history would indicate is a strategic plan to offshore and subcontract their (entire) O&T workforce.

Opinions will vary, but it's very difficult to believe that a headcount location survey at this point in the downsizing game is simply a local quality check.

Make sure they have room for all that business coming your way from elsewhere

Just checking out the seating. You say that you have never seen that before and it is new to you? Maybe this is something that wasn't being done regularly like it was supposed to and now the hired contractors are "gettin 'er done."

Clearwater also brought outside HR.

They are moving folks out of plant 2 and into plant 4. They also have grand plans to put "collaberation areas" within the cubicles where teams can meet without need for a conference room. Would take the space of 4 cubes and have monitors tou could put tour screen on. Seems like it'll be very noisy for the people in the cubes surrounding them. Grand plans but no budget yet but they are doing the leg work now.

It's hard to keep track of the musical chairs being played with all the RIF's

Could this have to do with the new open office concept? Just a guess but Clearwater was one of the sites mentioned during the town hall I believe.

It was a JLL person, I heard her introduce herself to someone in HR.

It was most likely JLL (Jones Lang LaSalle) just updating their maps / seating charts. Honeywell subcontracted out the majority of the Clearwater Facilities services to JLL a few years ago. JLL coordinates all of the moves within the site - when someone needs to move to a different cube or office it is JLL that they are calling to request the move. So it makes sense that JLL needs to know who is sitting where and which areas are available for people to move into.

I've seen that done by facilities all the time looking for spare cube space to park people, keep old names up on the cubes helps.

I have seen it done a couple times in my near 40 years but I have always KNOWN the person doing it. Typically a admin, say the directors or senior MGR's assistant. So my question to the OP did the "checker" have a HON badge on? if so get their name and look them up in the global addy. If not might be grounds to at least be suspicious.

Well, isn't it a bit odd that in over 20 years I have never seen this done until now? Yeah I think it IS something to worry about. Ok, not worry, because there is nothing to be accomplished by that. I guess just be aware and it IS out of the ordinary.

They usually do it just to ensure their records of where people sit are up to date. My site does this regularly. I'd say it really is nothing to be concerned with.

I actually do think it is just a person figuring the current seating chart for office.

Nothing to worry about
