I WORK FOR DIGITAL ANALYTICS&MARKETING TEAM (100 PEOPLE LARGE) AND HAV BEEN AT THE COMPANY FOR FOUR YEARS - I HAVE SEEN OUR LEADER ONCE IN 1-2 YEARS THE CMO LEADER HAS WORKED AT OUR SEARS (HE LIVES IN CALIFORNIA OR FLORIDA) HIS 2 DVPs I HAVE NEVER SEEN AND THEY DONT SEEM TO CARE ABOUT ANYONE AND HAVE GIVEN UP. YES WE HAVE LOTS OF FREEDOM BUT NO LEADERSHIP MEANS NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING. APPLY THAT ACROSS OUR COMPANY AND THAT IS WHY WE ARE FAILING AND WHY STOCK IS TUMBLING. LEADERS ARE FAILING YOU EDDIE.

For every employee lower than Lampert, giving up is the rational response to this situation. It doesn't matter how much money they make. The company hires new execs and expects them to transform the company (or even a single store) without spending any money or making any real changes. Lampert is a micro-manager and he set up a structure where subordinates have to fight each other for ever scarcer resources. The more intelligent and conscientious managers quit, leaving people who are in it just to get a paycheck for awhile.
Lampert isn't the only problem with the company but he sits in the big chair so most of the blame falls on him. He would have been fired years ago if he didn't own enough shares to control the company.
DISAGREE - C/LEVEL EXECS + DVPS GETTING 500K+ A YR SHOULD BE ABLE TO LEAD WITHOUT HAND HOLDING - THATS WHY THEY GET PAID SO MUCH, NO? LEADING IS PREREQUISITE.
