Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

If your manager strongly encourage you to consider another opening in other org , what does this mean? Any consequence if not consider?

Replace "performance" with "level of favor with your manager" and you've hit the nail on the head. Performance won't save you in your current or future position at Intel.

"Self evaluate your performance to see where you stand against your colleague, if you are in the bottom list of performance then moving to different team won't help.."

"It might be too late for you to start the annual backstabbing ritual for the yearly review. If you can't make your immediate peers look inferior, its never too late to take credit for some elses hard work."

I can speculate the following scenarios. If your manager is open with you, then you may be able to figure it out with him:

  1. your skills don't fit the needs of your current team (technical or personal). You can be successful in other teams.

  2. your skills are low than average and may fit only some low performing teams.

  3. you need to switch to a different profession to success.

  4. There is some mismuch between you and your manager. You would succeed with most other teams.

  5. Your manager needs to cut some HC next year. You are his candidate for such cut. S/he thinks you have the lowest value/potential in the team (relative assessment)

I personally know of some that developed nice career in a different team at Intel after such message.

I am so glad I'm not dealing with focal any longer. I remember when I first joined Intel. I was stunned (and not in a good way) when I heard how you were ranked and rated and how unfair the system was.

I keep hearing about change but don't think they've done anything (still). I could be wrong through, I ERPed. :)

Like they used to say on Monty Python- "nod, nod, nudge, nudge, say no more". Best be prepped to be let go in the next layoff. Look outside Intel as well. Odds are as the low man on the totem pole in a new group, they'll axe you first. Be thankful your manager gave you a heads up.

OP: Why not ask your manager to help you get the "another opening in other org" if the opening is there and he/she "strongly encouraged you"?

I wholeheartedly agree with the other posters. S/he's being NICE by giving you a heads-up AND covering their butt since I don't think they can actually tell you the true about the matter. I'm positive management has been warned against telling them what will happen (like ACT). They can only hint around about it without actually breaking that rule. I don't think they are even supposed to do that. Hence them being nice to you when they do it. They know what's coming and giving you a warning without saying the words.

GET MOVING AND GO! LOL

You are a goner! Consider it your warning in a nice way. If you don't take the advice, you'll be ISP.

Get your resume and LinkedIn updated and send a lot of resumes out so you capture the hiring wave of new year.

You are totally the candidate for IR/ L4 or L5 stick this year for some trivial thing. And you will be the first out on the layoff!
