Indian higher ups in india are atleast interested and willing to do things albeit 80% for their own benefit and 20% for you the trenches engineer.

Indian higher ups in sjc are mostly resting on past laurels of blockbuster products delivered in 90s when they were level1 managers or tech leads. They just network and survive and feed on the cash cows now. Some are deep into property trading and virtual slum lords with many apartments. Cronyism rules. Kids ivy league is paid for.

I guess same must be true of those who made it big in 90s. Why would they rock the boat and try anything new?

Its upto US govt to find these 1000s of abusers and clean the mess. Nothing has changed it seems since late 90s when i was h1. Some are shops were a guy is founder, wife is hr and brother is recruiter. The lines of hopefuls to exploit must have grown longer now. Another trick is offer a low salary of x but only y as regular wage and you get remainder x-y only if you serve 1 year. I know of offers like x being 80k in silicon valley for people with family. How can they survive on that? This in 2015 btw. People left wives and kids behind and piled on overcrowded batchelor apts.

Not that its a purely indic thing. H1 people from eastern europe or china must be similarly exploited by their ethnic plantation owners and mountain view is overcrowded due to goog/fbook fresh hires piling on to any housing.

Together the h1 plus green card circus now is nothing less than plantation slavery. Needs a complete cleanup and reset but employers love it. I am not hopeful of reforms.

Anyway i served my time in the chain gang, abandoned my gc process and happily relocated to india more than a decade ago and doing well though others who kiss butt have done one level better or got rewards earlier. The same dna in ruling layers whether in sjc or blr but no gc/h1 circus here and lesser number of desperate people willing to work 24x7 as they can leave if they want...not tied to employer

Wow.. Innovation at its peak... we may not innovate technology, but we know how to skirt around the rules. Btw, Modi is cleaning up this crap..just ashamed of people like Karne . All indians are not like him.

Indian Pleads Guilty To H-1B Visa Fraud In US

Indian Pleads Guilty To H-1B Visa Fraud In US

Hari Karne faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Washington: A 32-year-old Indian-origin immigration manager for an IT company has pleaded guilty for committing H-1B visa fraud in the US.

Hari Karne, who hails from Hyderabad, faces a maximum potential penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

According to federal prosecutors, Mr Karne's conspirators recruited foreign workers with purported IT expertise who sought work in the US.

The conspirators then sponsored the foreign workers' H-1B visas with the stated purpose of working for SCM Data, a US-based company, and MMC Systems' clients throughout the US.

When submitting the visa paperwork to US Citizenship and Immigration Services, the conspirators represented that the foreign workers had full-time positions and were paid an annual salary, as required to secure the H-1B visas.

"Contrary to these representations and in violation of the H-1B programme, the conspirators paid the foreign workers only when they were placed at a third-party client who entered into a contract with SCM Data or MMC Systems," the Department of Justice said in a press release.

"The conspirators told the foreign workers who were not currently working that if they wanted to maintain their H-1B visa status, they would need to come up with what their gross wages would be in cash and give it to SCM Data and MMC Systems so the companies could issue payroll checks to the foreign workers.

"Karne, who was a US immigration manager with SCM Private Limited in India, which had service agreements with SCM Data and MMC Systems, admitted that he advised foreign workers to pay SCM Data and MMC Systems in cash the approximate amount they were supposed to be paid by the companies in order to generate false payroll records," federal prosecutors alleged.

Mr Karne further admitted that in February and March 2015, in response to a US Department of Labour audit, he assisted SCM Data and MMC Systems in the preparation of false leave slips for foreign workers that were submitted to the US Department of Labour's to conceal the fact that the foreign workers were not paid during those time periods as required by federal law.
