Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Is it staying open?

Hey guys,

I teach in online and I am worried when seeing all of this. Is the college going to shut down because the enrollment is lower. Can we come up with some idea here to get it higher? what would we need to get more students to keep our jobs? maybe they could cut the tuition to get more students in. Just brainstoming here and worried about my job.

You sound new to all this...

The schools have been going down hill for the last 5 years...

There is no saving it.

Jealous? Noooooo I am not jealous of people afraid for their jobs while touting a master's degree. If you truly think you are a badass bc of your master's degree then go to a traditional university and try your attitude out there. Those stodgy academics will chew you up and spit you out. Fun stuff. Oh...and I'm also not jealous of anyone with a Master's degree that doesn't know the difference between your and you're. Did you get your masters from an EDMC school? Yeah. Thought so.

If you're not smart enough to see the train wreck coming, you deserve to be run over by it!

It's the Holiday season! You could always fold sweaters! That's probably the only job you'll land with EDMC on your resume! You never know! You might run into some EDMC alumni, since that is the only job they can get with their worthless degrees you helped them earn!!!

@KUWCcYM-1gve so let me see if I got this straight: You asked a question to get ideas to see if you can keep your job going and calling out to people that doesn't have degrees, to agree that there is a declining enrollment where every person knows it is a sign to find a new job only to brush off as a negative answer that you don't want to accept? If that isn't indicating you're not confident about your own job searching skills, extreme denial is not a far off.

Compared to ground schools online education is horrible. Other than people wanting to get an easy Master's degree I have yet to see decent results. No one can stay in their mamas basement and make 50k so quit promising

Walmart is hiring door greeters! They probably are the only ones who have stock left in EDMC.

I posted a honest question here about keeping my job on online teaching and every person here posts bad stuff. Maybe jealous you couldn't get you're masters and teach at a college much? I am just trying to see if there are going to be more classes to teach in 2017 for online. If poeple doon't know that's fine but then don't post about those here.

It's a sinking ship. Do yourself a favor and find a new job.

Brainstorm a way to find alternative employment if you want security. The truth is nobody knows when or if EDMC will cease operations but we do know the numbers don't look good. Those who may have inside information aren't posting here. What we can tell from this site is the work environment is hostile which is not a good sign. Upper management is not happy and this is typically tied to declining or non existing profits and failed efforts to right the ship. It looks like there's a lot of blame shifting going on with admissions managers and reps taking the brunt of it. And the bottom line with on line education for the consumer and taxpayer is that it is not an effective platform with only a small percentage graduating (at one point I read 5%). So the bottom line is you cant control what is happening with this corporation but you can control how do you choose to spend your time and what you value. If I were you I'd start from there.

If you work at south online don't plan on increasing enrollment anytime soon. South let Dr Vic leave and he actually can increase the numbers.

Stock has been low... but is dropping more. Does the word accreditation and arbitration clause ring a bell.

Students aren't coming back to this fraud factory... everyone wants to see this "organization" go under and pay for all of the scams it has gotten away with. So basically.... close and own up. Quit asking how you're going to keep on stealing taxpayers money!

Thnak you for the replies here. This does not say anything about closing down. Does it look like they will keep open the oonline classes at least? if there are any people who know that would be great. Another post said the stock was low so that might mean they are closing.

Lol, if they cut tuition then they will also cut your salary, does that work for you? Find a new job if you're so worried. Happy holidays.
