As one of the latest wave of laid off VZ employees in the NE, I often read some great stories of folks who started with other companies after and who are happy with their new beginnings. Would you mind sharing you stories here? Where did you go? How did the new company look upon your VZ experience etc?

Thanks 4qen! That was exceptional timing! Good for you. There seems to be a consensus that moving to a smaller operation is the best direction to go to avoid more of the same. No job is safe, but I hope to avoid another house--of-cards company like VZ.
It is nice to hear 'SOME" of our RIF-tee co-workers have found jobs. It is tough out there because I think some companies think you only know Telecom work. For others, stay the course , don't let the new job define who you are as a person, eat crow if you have to , to put food on the table.
and life is great! On the beach, jammin to Bruno Mars, sipping and VZ is in the rear view mirror. Got a great job....the technology experience a plus...Got a promotion...Executive level...More $$...God is good...thanks VZ for helping me understand my professional value is high and well received in a great workplace!!
I was incredibly fortunate actually. I had reviewed a call to set up an interview the day before Verizon told me my position was being eliminated. I kept it close to my chest, and about 3 weeks before my time with Verizon was up the company I interviewed with called me with a job offer.. Better pay, way better hours (9-5 type of deal), and more in line with my goals.
I didn't tell Verizon about it, I simply set my start date as the Monday after my last day at Verizon. Took my severance ad a bonus and walked into my new job after the weekend.
Loving the new job, it's with a small company where I actually have input that's valued.
Verizon was absolutely terrible. I miss not one thing from that place.
Thanks for sharing, Legend. It's great to hear the stories of life after VZ. I agree the direction the company is going in is dire, and there's no doubt it's a sinking ship. Each poor quarter will mean more lay offs and I'm not sure if the company has the means to prevent its inevitable collapse.
I learned a lot from Verizon regarding sales but the direction the company was heading and with a few changes that I didn't agree with I knew it was time to go. I took my severance and now work in the car industry. I like doing sales and pay is a little different here but I love this job so much. I feel comfortable here and I feel like I'm part of a family and not just another desposable number. The unknown can be scary but it can payoff if you put in the effort.
1oly that's great! Wow you really took a big leap of faith, especially with no severance as an incentive. What was it that made you leave a GM role, if you don't mind me asking? There are currently quite a few retail manager postings open, presumably vacated by folks like you, so your insights are valued by me and, I'm sure others reading this :-)
I stepped down from my General Manager Retail role a little over a month ago and was able to find another job in less than a week. I'm and now in the solar industry working in outside sales. My schedule consists of working from home and going on appts that are set by our company lead generators. I just experienced my first Thanksgiving holiday with family in over 11 years and I couldn't be happier. Get a plan and research about a field and role that lines up with your experience and aptitudes and take a leap. It'll pay off in the long run! Don't be afraid of taking a chance on yourself!!! It paid off big time for me.
I am out of the nut shack of finance in basking ridge. Back working in a normal company. Never seen anything like VZW management managing nothing but excess useless work.

Uq1 thank you for your earnest reply. What a shame the others were so facetious. I have been offered a severance of half a year but the prospect of a position in another channel has presented itself and the temptation to stay is there even though I know VZ is a house of cards. Hearing experiences after VZ is very useful to people in my position. I hope others share genuine experiences here rather than act like morons. There are always plenty of those, unfortunately.

Wasn't really a decision for me. VZW $hitcanned me last year and my only choice to stay was to move to the Basking Ridge $hithouse. Personally, the thought of being that close to the leadership team as well as living in beautiful New Jersey (not) made me want to vomit.
I now work for another fortune 500 company and the culture is much different. To start with, there are not 5 layers of middle management running around trying to find things to do because they serve no purpose. There are no endless conference calls to talk about nothing. Leadership does not run the show with a culture of fear and the most amazing part is I work a 40 hour (or less) work week.
Verizon has good pay and benefits, but at what cost? I took a slight pay cut initially, but there is potential to earn much more and the stress is non existent.
I'll probably live a longer life now that I am out of the nut house.
If your offered a severance, take it and run away. Life is way better after Verizon trust me.
I am sorry that you lost your job. I was laid off in 2015. Being a single mom I couldn't save money like I needed to so yes, I have 2 jobs now. One is full time and the other part time. I did take a pay cut and I don't necessarily like my full time job but it pays the bilsl and I am thankful to be employed.

I went into the slave trade after getting so much experience at Verizon. I'm doing great.
