Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

We need a major breakthrough otherwise major layoff in 2017. Agree?

2017 is going to be tough year for Qcom. 4K-5k lay off possible unless we go through some major breakthrough in tech.

What is the rational behind keeping all these h-1b Indians when there are new 45,000 employees coming on board from merger? Let alone bringing new h-1bs? At the expense of American workers who have been replaced. ...

Obviously, Q has no option than changing its path and direction. The era of CDMA is soon to be doomed and Q's ownership is soon to be over. SM has in the past shown he can sack 15% while sitting on $16B to save $1B. But this time Q may need to borrow $16B to close this deal with NXP.

Perhaps (as you pointed out) this is pessimism on this site but you cannot deny that there is some painting on the wall. And remember what PJ said in his speech before booting out 4500 that Q would never be the same as before by expressing his support for SM and justifying the lay off as "all other companies laying off employees annually".

Breakthrough or not there will be layoffs. I can name quite a few folks under my VP. if HR really looks into their work they would be obvious candidates but they know how to survive here

I see no reason 2017 would bring large layoffs. There is a little Wall street pressure to do so. The company is going to be gearing up to close the NXP deal. Beside the same old gloom and doom posts on this site, I'd love to hear some technical analysis behind anyone calling for impending layoffs.
