Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Correlation: layoff - no recent salary raise?

Just the other day, 70% of all employees received a salary raise.

I'm guessing now that those who were layed off in these days didn't get one.

Now it gets even more interesting: I'm guessing now further that those who didn't get a recent salary raise and are still around will be hot candidates for a further layoff. That would include me :-/

I think, since 2011, we were all ignoring these symptoms of bad management-decisions, because we were not personally affected by these LRs. As the water started soaking all those still in the boat ( and LR affected everyone), slowly everyone realized that Titanic is indeed sinking :). No point hashing the reasons for the sink (LR), get on a life boat or swim to safety, before you get further drawn down, when the whole "cisco"-ship settles down at the bottom of the ocean.

RE:

"I'm curious as to how many people are being cut this time and why it's not making the news? Is Cisco trying to do it in smaller chunks to avoid reporting it? Is this part of the announced 5500 or the "leaked" 14K?"

I was "impacted" yesterday. It was confirmed to me that there is no new announcement because this is still part of the announced 5500.

I'm curious how long it will take for this new People Deal of ongoing layoffs to ruin Cisco. The executives are so out of touch with the front line. The environment they've created is toxic and bad for the long-term health of the company.

Good luck .

Timing-wise layoffs lists were prepared before all the raises/promos were accepted. Yes, the raise could have been denied if someone was on the layoff list, but that would then be a clear signal to the manager requesting this raise, that his reportee will be impacted.

So no, neiter getting nor not getting a raise recently makes you safe.

Raises always take into consideration the person's comp ratio. For at least the past 5 years, the company has been targeting people with lower comp ratios first. High performers, lower grades, and currently lower comp ratio employees are generally first in line. So if you're a higher grade employee with a relatively high comp ratio already, take a step back and realize you're probably suffering from Lake Wobegone syndrome.

I know two people who got raises last week who were laid off today.

@zyj - At least their severance package will be for the higher wage level. That's at least a positive, but it sure s_cks to be in their shoes.

You are overthinking this :-) . A lot of folks in my Org did not get raises ... I don't think they are getting laid off .
