Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Outside In - GONE

I was working on Outside In - the product which could read over 400 file formats and convert them for viewing, printing, PDF, etc. Oracle shanghaied 2/3 of our development group last spring for other projects and the remaining 17 got the ax Tuesday. 5 QA and 12 developers/managers (including our local VP).

The amount saved by Oracle is peanuts - I wonder how many others got RIF'd.

Oracle Outside In Technology provides software developers with a comprehensive solution to access, transform, and control the contents of over 500 unstructured file formats. From the latest office suites, such as Microsoft Office 2007, to specialty formats and legacy files, Outside In Technology provides software developers with the tools to transform unstructured files into controllable information.

AFAIK there will be no future releases of OIT. As for maintenance, we were training 4 or 5 engineers in India, but 8 months is not much time. Don't hold your breath for bug fixes.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that, OIT was truly invaluable and a hidden hero in many products. I don't pretend to understand why the team's expertise is not redeployed to address Machine Learning when Intelligent Apps was the wow factor this OOW.

Stay positive, there's a lot of opportunities out there!

We use outside in in our product. Anyone know how these layoffs will affect future releases maintenance?
