Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

"IBM & Dell haven't had a new idea in 30 years", the same could apply to Honeywell

I found the text of this originally on the IBM layoff thread but I feel much of the same applies to Honeywell (I found a link to the original story):

http://www.businessinsider.com/vinod-khosla-no-innovation-dell-emc-ibm-and-hp-2015-11

Best quote:

"They've not introduced what I consider one new idea over the last 30 years....Mostly they've spent their last few years engineering financials."

Hmm...sounds mighty familiar

That is the nexus of organic growth vs. acquisitions.

I figured Dell was around 30 years old. I get confused because before they were Dell, they were PCs Limited, which Michael Dell started while he was a student at Univ. of TX.

One of my early career jobs we had a few PCs Limited PCs around. They were already antiquated pieces of crud by then. Amazing how cool it was to get a 20 MHz PC instead of a 16 MHz PC back then.

Dell hasn't been a pleasant place to work, ever. Always known for constant employee "churn & burn". It was around 1997 I had that job offer, and everyone there was burning out fast.

Just read the thread for Dell on this website, and you can see they are as bad as they ever were, with even more constant layoffs and no job security, with continuous off-shoring. Just a "Dell-hole" to work for!

Dell was founded in 1984, so 2016-1984=32

Dell is nearly 30 years old. I had a job offer there once. But I didn't take it

because I found out they had a job opening because the guy who had the job

died from stress-related illness on the job. Yep, true story. Dell is a h@ll-hole

just like Honeywell.

The speaker in the article is off on his timeline in some ways but his message still applies.

FINANCIAL ENGINEERING. Not technical engineering.

To be fair, Honeywell probably hasn't had a new idea in technology for about 15 years.

Plus, Allied Signal missed the boat on hand-held GPS about 20 years ago. They were

too ignorant to realize its market potential (although cell phones are making them

obsolete). But, Garmin didn't have to happen. Min and Gary took off with AS technology

and created a whole new company from it, who basically is taking away the whole low-end

avionics market from Honeywell for the old Bendix/King Radio customer base. And that

might not be all.

For the record, I do not work at Garmin, and I never will. Does anyone know anybody

proud to work there? Other than to take business away from Honeywell.

Dell is a very recent company. I doubt it is even 30 years old.
