You can't expect quality if you don't test. We had one of our Indian teams execute (and mark as passed!) an entire suite of 140 testcas over the course of 7 days without even powering on the VM. No joke.

Did anybody go to any Cisco Live events or the big one in Las Vegas a few months ago? What an absolute embarrassment as most of our revolutionary demos failed repeatedly on the big stage. Had to watch it through my fingers.

At our site, QA is no longer a valued skillset. You have to confirm to the 'One Engineer' philosophy which means you design, code, test, debug, deploy, maintain and support your product. Every engineer must do all of these elements equally well. You are on-call and when the beeper goes you have thirty minutes to fix the customer problem. Little surprise then that the last four LR's have primarily targeted QA people at our site and also little surprise that quality of released products is suffering hugely. You can't have one without the other but that doesn't really register.

Qa cannot do anything about stuff thats bad design to start with. name any old less social tool and its replacement, the old tool was generally more reliable and faster. edcs for instance...why did it need a replacement?
