Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

H1Bs are really the sad story for High Tech Job Loss

“The intent of the H-1B provisions is to help employers who cannot otherwise obtain needed business skills and abilities from the U.S. workforce by authorizing the temporary employment of qualified individuals who are not otherwise authorized to work in the United States.”

So, as previously mentioned, H1Bs are meant to be used sparingly, for highly talented workers possessing skills employers can’t readily find. That sounds fair. Except that employers are widely and openly abusing the program, leading to thousands of lost jobs for Americans.

Ask yourself at Intel...how many H1Bs are being employed by jobs that high skilled and cannot be filled by Americans at Intel right now? I would say around 50K at least.

The majority of the H1-Bs are young, mostly male, fresh college graduates from India who took a few months training to be brought in to the USA to do software development work at low pay. Some don't actually do anything software related, once they get in they are put to work running their family motels and restaurants etc.

The reason more Americans don't get into Master's and PhD programs is because universities would rather have foreign students that pay them double or triple the rates Americans do. So they push out American students in favor of the foreign students, whose education cost is subsidized by their parents or their governments back home.

Also not all but some of those that earn MS, PHD's cheat their way through. I have met plently of H1B PHD holders who could barely speak english, yet their thesis paper was in perfect english. I think there is cheating going and its more widespread then anyone would like to admit.

Americans aren't lazy its the government, companies and schools favoring the the inflow of money that these foreign students and employees bring, not the talent.

Jealous lazy Americans are the only ones that are against H1b.

The H1b I hired, all PhDs, most were foreigners who study hard, really hard. Most are often the best in their class and come to the US for a better life. Same story 30, 50, and 100 years ago. I would have happily hired American born US over any foreigner, but truth be told few Americans are willing to study in STEM and work long and hard fot the PhD. So we leave the 135k job to hard working and motivated foreigners.

STFU with your stupid H1b jealousy!

All corporations are abusing the system. All one has to do is walk to the cafeteria at CH7 and you would think you are eating lunch at Beijing or Mumbai.
