Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I am scheduled for an interview. Is this a bad time to join Oracle? From the posts looks unpredictable.

Job says location is CA or MA.

Oracle needs a very strong Tech Leader like Nadella. MH is like Ballmer. Absolutely no vision. The answer is not TK. He is one of the worst managers. He can't deliver a decent cloud product. Most of his people live in fear. You can't work under that type of tyranny.

I would not go to Oracle right now. Yes, check out Glassdoor. Lots of bad reviews. Most of the good ones look unrealistic and that they may have been written by the same person.

Cloud team is no guarantee - you must also be under the right boss or the right org! It is very frothy right now.

1% is consider high in Oracle for department that didn't generate income directly. Didn't have any raise for years for a lot of people here.

Be prepared to not get a raise and if so only 1%.

I suspect divesting of HW will become obvious. The idea was good to do a vertical solution but the market will not bare the cost not does it want it. Small market might exist of existing customers but not enough to warrant massive development costs and ongoing losses. Something will be decided.

Sparc will be gone sooner or later, there is no question about that, Oracle losing money every quarter.

I work in x86 serverand we have had RIFs on both sprac and x86. Sales of sparc are not going well and bottom line is always is the sales happening. Sparc server has been in decline for quite sometime.

I would not trust sparc product line to be stable. Oracle will hire and layoff or reorganize under MH. I would say go to Amazon if you want a career more than a year or two. Oracle is in trouble with cloud and just in denial.

Sparc is aggressively hiring and they have innovative products in the pipe. Interviews are hard though. Id take it you get through.

Run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. Even if you work on a cloud product (which is all Oracle cares about now) you will just be a tiny cog in the machine. Oracle has zero loyalty to their employees, witness all the recent layoffs.

Anyone still at Oracle who thinks their job is secure - it's not. Start getting your resume in line now because your entire product group can be terminated at any time to make some pencil pusher's spreadsheet look better.

It's always good to get an offer and stay relevant. Take it, your success at Oracle will depend your relationship with co-workers and managers.
