Susquehanna Financial Group’s Christopher Rolland has been rather excited the last 24 hours about a breakthrough he believes he’s discovered on the part of Intel (INTC) that could be a “game-changer” for the chip giant.
Rolland, who has a “Positive” rating on Intel stock, yesterday raised his price target to $45 from $42 after concluding Intel may have come up with a technology that “could be one of the most important of our generation.”
Today, Rolland hosted a conference call with one professor Wim Bogaerts of Ghent University, whom he describes as “a global thought leader in silicon photonics.” Rolland has not yet released a new note since that call, though I would expect to see one any moment now.
This invention, which Rolland described a little in the first of two notes, yesterday, is one that would “mitigate Moore’s Law,” the decades-old rule of thumb of semiconductor economics that has started to look long in the tooth in recent years.
