Yes you are right!! After CDMA, CDMA, CDMA and CDMA R&D is at the top of technology....wrong
A better question is what can make American companies like what they used to be. Show me a Fortune 500 company, other than a monopoly like Google, that isn't consumed by Wall Street quarterly capitalism and mindless cost cutting. They have all just become financial engineering operations milking products developed over 30 years ago. However, Qualcomm is actually one of the top R&D spenders, vastly eclipsing Apple. It is basically tied for #1 with Facebook at 23-24%.
