Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I am the OP of "RIFd last week from..."

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that provided me with respectful input. I know I am marketable and will move on without a doubt. I was just seeking advice. To tell you slightly more... I believe I have very high chance of winning a case. I believe 100% that I was targeted because of medical reasons as do my co-workers. I have several pieces of solid proof. There is a lot which I don't want to discuss here. My medical never impacted my performance but the bosses were very nervous about it impacting my future. I also agree with the person that said VZ attorneys wouldn't layoff people in a manner that doesn't protect the company. However, those attorneys and HR are not aware of what was taking place with me. I am looking at the whole thing as blessing really just because of the toxicity and I know several people in HQ with good insight. From what they have told me many things will be different by the end of 2017. My only worry now is finding something that will provide good benefits and cover pre-existing conditions or else I will literally die. As for the one person with "poor baby & fat***" comment, not only are you dead wrong, your attitude speaks to why you were most likely or will be promoted to customer. I have a few legal appointments set up for this week and will make a decision from there. My goal isn't to get back into VZ but make them pay for what truly went down. Thank you all again for your thoughts and experiences.

Build a bridge and get over your pitty party. You weren't boo hoo a week before Christmas in 2009 when Verizon laid off 475 hardworking Vcs installers who were the guys making poletop connections pumping money into the corporation. Medical issues seemed to delay ur layoff so welcome to corporate greed which were about both strikes Ibew 827 fought against. Good luck calling into unemployment for days on end hearing busy signals. Lowel life macadams is the man whos responsible

Good luck to you. I didn't mean to be one of the Debbie Downers. It's just that I had recently read my husbands severance agreement. He had hidden it from me last year because he knew the scummy thing would make me disgusted. I don't see how they won't be prevented from coming back for the severance benefits if you are successful in a lawsuit so by the time you pay the lawyer, will there be any left of a settlement for you? My husband decided he just would rather move on. It is amazing how Verizon keeps offering lawyers to help him get on disability, but I'm sure would deny vehemently that his little medical problem for which he missed no days had anything to do with his RIF. Disgusting, just disgusting. Praying for better days ahead for you.

Yep, Verizon has been smacked with successful lawsuits before and I am sure it will eventually happen to them again.

All the best to you. Here is something that will give you hope. Don't pay any attention to those Debbie Downers. With the grace of God you will come out of this better.

OP, best of luck, be careful, VZ will stop at nothing, They have the money, internal and external legal teams who can keep you in court for YEARS while you still have to pay your lawyers.

I admire your confidence in KNOWING you are marketable and will find another job in THIS! economy. .. Hundreds of previous VZ RIF-Tees(especially ones over 50 yrs old) can tell you otherwise ..when looking for jobs comparable to VZ's salary and benefits.

Ive mentioned in previous threads that I thoroughly believe they axed people with medical histories, FMLA leave or increased benefit usage. Please let us all know if you need back up or are opening a class action. I am with you 100%. Godspeed.

Tread carefully OP. While you may have a solid case, the legal system will do little to stop Verizon from trying to destroy you as every turn. And the case will eat at you daily.

It's like being accidentally run over by a truck while riding your bike to work. You may have been in the right. But in the end .....
