Second year in a row for large scale layoffs at Verizon Wireless. Impacting all parts of the business, but particularly of interest are the IT layoffs. Those should be of interest because VZW is replacing those US positions with even more positions in Indian. Why is there no news coverage on that like when Disney tried to do the same thing?

Just let Sara Blackwell know, she helped Disney workers and she has a non-profit helping whit this =- she's also an attorney...
She has a FB where you can reach her also you can check out her site outlining how she helps stop outsourcing - it's here www.protectusworkers.org
She's very responsive - you can even just point her to any thread here on the layoff dot com - she'll figure it out
I worked in IT until last year when I was rif'd. We were training the India folks how to do our jobs and my former coworkers are still training them now.
They were smart creating VDSI, I trained them in Xpediter around 5 years ago. Some lady above director level told us not to worry about them taking our jobs, she "retired" at the end of last year and that was before we knew about the Nov 5th layoffs of last year. That lady was certainly forced out.
Verizon does the same thing. The difference is that Verizon does favors for the government and the feds do favors for Verizon. Fascism I think that they call that.
Verizon is smart. Instead of getting h1b workers they opened a whole division in India. VDSI
Because Disney was doing nasty stuff, abusing the H1B program and making IT staff train the incoming foreign contractors to do their own jobs. VZ is simply hiring in India which does not create any headlines.
