Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Switching Down Again

I am really concerned about the core business. We are in decline, investment seems to be constrained, and I don't trust my leaders. Not to mention that we were told the lawsuit would stop Arista. I am starting to believe that people are just lying. Market share eroding, stories getting more and more unbelievable and the lack of senior technical leadership is insane. I don't know Roland Acra but he better be great.

As an FYI, how much has our legal department wasted on this lawsuit with no results? I heard rumor of 120M from my finance director.

Not to mention the leaching out of talent - those that aren't fired that is. We've had a bit of a round table in my (BU) group and EVERYBODY is talking to outsiders except the idiot director. This is a 0.5B business and I'm getting rather concerned that it'll soon have to run on autopilot.

The fate of the switching business will drive the fate of Cisco. Cisco has been extracting profit from the Nexus and Catalyst product lines for so long that it is taken for granted. Catalyst especially....so profitable, great gross margins. After a while, you forget about the long-term and no one remembers to invest. You only know OPEX reductions to drive quarterly short-term metrics. There are several product families with $1B in revenue with a single product manager. Lack of investment, Broadcom's roadmap, tepid demand for 100G and enterprise migration to public cloud, all contribute to Cisco's decline and create room for Arista. Cisco will see continued market share declines in Ethernet switching. The business is not healthy.

Chuck I for one would welcome a constructive conversation with you. (Of course unlike the Cisco beat constructive conversation requires both parties to listen and have open dialog on all topics.). Feel free to reach out to me, since I am not "invisible." :-)
