@KxvhWfl-aqvi Please note that just because of the amount of for-profit facts outweighs the non-profits doesn't essentially mean that it escape criticism. In fact by stating you steer away from conversations like this is hypocritical of you to state that a person will foam at the mouth at the thought of something bad of a school regardless of status. Much like the voters, people can make a statement that outnumbered your personal opinion, despite the idea of not getting involved.

@KxvhWfl-aqvi: it's refreshing knowing that you will be unemployed once these despicable diploma mills are finally shut down.

@KxvhWfl-8nml what's "statical" information? Links with "statistical" information were provided.

How much $ given to a presidential candidate is public. That's not emotional. That's pointing out facts.

This is why I stay away from siding with people like you. You're not even helping. When one person says something bad about the non-profits as well, you freak out and foam at the mouth. What they can't be criticized too?? No need to get emotional and deflect from your own hypocritical reaction.

Please don't vote...or drive a car if you can't even read.

7acf, can you back up ANYTHING you just said with statical information or any type of research whatsoever that is peer reviewed? Emotions are not rational. You have just proven that. Please don't vote ever again.

3zyi,check the national default rate for profit vs private or non profit. You intentionally refuse to look at data because you want to keep getting paid. For profit education corporations need to go along with the financial predators who run them. The propaganda is nauseating. Seriously. Stop.

You only mention non-profit colleges once in all those articles you listed below. I suspect you're no different than the HuffPost lobbyist who gets paid to trash ONLY the for-profits because their PACs pay your bills. Your response was pretty funny though...since not even one of those articles are critical of non-profits.

Obama's top contributors to the 2008 election cycle include several non-profit colleges, including the highest paid contributor to his campaign the UC System in California. Gee I wonder why Obama and the Dems dislike their competition (for-profits) so much. So don't pretend you care about students - you'll never target the corruption at non-profits because it's about anti-capitalism ideology - not improving education.

"The attack on the for-profits is an attack based on ideology, a dislike of capitalism, more than on a comprehensive and objective concern for students. The clearly one-sided nature of Harkin’s criticism may be one reason that his report was not issued by all the Democrats on the Senate education committee."

Enjoy!

@KxvhWfl-3zyi,

I have written several articles about the US College Meltdown in general, which covers corruption throughout higher education. They are available on my LinkedIn.

Eventually we'll go after state and private universities but for right now, let's concentrate on the For Profits. As you say, they're low hanging fruit and easier to pick.

"Extreme cost of tuition" is quite a bit of hyperbole when compared with state schools, public, and especially private universities. Again for profits aren't good but this crusade against only them is not helping students. There's 1.3 trillion in student loan debt, non-profits continue to raise tuition at an alarming rate, and there is very little regulation for them across the board. Camden if you are truly into anti-corruption and have been for as long as you state I would expect the journalist side of you to be looking into higher Ed as a whole and not just trolling layoff boards looking for low hanging fruit.

This could be the final nail in the coffin for EDMC. With the extreme cost of tuition at EDMC schools, the percentage of programs to fail is likely higher than UoP.

Add in SACS Accreditation potentially dropping the majority of remaining EDMC schools (all of South U, Ai Miami, Houston, Atlanta and all of their branch campuses.)

There's plenty wrong with education across the board, but there's really no argument for for profits unless you work for one. The US taxpayer is bleeding out on for profits and they don't produce results for the vast majority of their students. Why should they stay open? Why should we continue to fund them? Greed is the motivator here. No rational person could read the results of investigations into this industry and conclude they are good for the demographic they serve.

Wow, not that for profit is great but damn non-profits have raised tuition percentage wise quite a bit more than for profits and they peddle many useless degrees. What is the gov going to say once the for profits are crushed and the default rates continue? Will they finally reform non-profits at that point?

No, only for-profits. Non-profits aren't required to follow the same rules as for-profits. There's no 90/10 rule, no placement rule, no graduation rule. They only need to abide by their accrediting body rules. Not very fair is it?
