Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The long arm of the layoff board censor

We had a great thread going with "Exxon ceo - secretary of state!" And lo and behold, it is gone! All the 200+ posts. What a brutal censorship! A layoff board does not have to be talking about layoff all the time. The current and future political scenarios, global developments affecting the industry.. They are all important. Very petty and narrow minded censorship!

The "you" is the 99%....it is just that Giqm is too dim to realize he is also a "you". It is just the getting the whole trailer park crowd to be up set about the "death tax" ... it just leaves me slack jawed... as in wtf!

@Fzpe, you are going to be a very unhappy person for the next 4 years (maybe 8) if you continue to dwell on something you won't be able to change. The election is over, Trump is President, and life goes on. Don't you have something constructive to focus on? Sulking, hating, complaining and agonizing is a waste of anyone's time. Live and try to move on.

Dmjo - Yes, very said to report that Fredrick Douglass died of a massive heart attack. Not sure if Trump has been told yet. There was hope with the start of black history month that he would continue to help make America great again.

How can Trump spend his time worrying about the Apprentice, he needs to leave that to the terminator. We have so many more important things we need him to tweet about! We have to stop women from finding out about cervical cancer from pp, stop our beautiful baby children from getting autism from those evil vaccinations, and, most important, put down those uppity dingoes. Not to mention all the Bowling Green mercenaries flowing across out southern border…wheres that wall! .... the problems that need attention never end!

-Dsws: As much as you might try, you can not rewrite history. Bush owns the Iraq war, the economic collapse, and was on watch during 911. Trump now is showing every sign of returning us to those disastrous times: allowing too big to fail banks to make reckless bets backed stopped by the treasury and inflaming international tensions. When this goes bad (again) I am sure you will be able to twist in our own mind some reason it must be the democrats fault.

-Dofq, Pay no mind to -Dfbf. You just happened to prove him wrong about his 4.8% claim and you schooled him with the link and chart showing the real unemployment rate for January 2017 at near 10%. So, he's just a pissed off child who must have the last word. BTW, I was laid off last year at age 56 and haven't landed anything yet. I refuse to sell myself short and take a job suitable for a 20 year old starting his career. If the Department of Labor published real unemployment rates for our age demographic, I wouldn't be surprised to see it at 50% or higher. Keep up the job searches if you are not ready to hang up on a career. Something will eventually turn up.

It not my so-called "entitled" attitude that's holding me back. It the 55+ age discrimination in the workplace that's holding me back. Don't worry about how much I've saved or not saved. That not the point here. It's the unemployment rate, which for me is a very real concern.

Looks like Obama almost corrected all of GWB's screw ups based on that graph. I will say one thing though, Obama was no Clinon else we would be even lower on this "real unemployment" metric. What sat you, stupid Trumpkins?

Thanks for the link. Looks like the "real unemployment" peaked around the top of the GFC... big shock. Now it has been cut by 60% under Obama's term. It must drive you Trumpkins mad to have your own BS prove that Obama did a pretty darn good job if you would take off the right wing blinders.

@Cran, let us know when you finally land a "decent" job. Maybe it's your "entitled" attitude that's holding you back. You looking for one of those decent coal mining jobs? Or maybe you are hoping for one of those car manufacturing jobs that got replaced by a robot 30 years ago. Good luck with that.

30 years experience you should have enough saved away that you can take one of these lesser jobs and get by until full retirement. If not, that's on you big boy.

I have 20 years experience but have saved and saved and saved some more. If I get let go tomorrow I have enough to pay my kids' college tuition plus a decent lifestyle. I could take a crap job just to cover living expenses and make out just fine.

Go me... The hell with hoping some politician is going to make things right for me.

@Dsmt - Take a look at the Department of Labor U-6 (Real Unemployment) statistic at January 2017. Its at 9.4%. Here's the link with a nice chart for you to look at. If you read the short article on the webpage, you see what I'm talking about:

The Unemployment Rate comes in many different flavors. Take your pick. The best looking one shows the rate at 4.8%. So what? The truest rate of unemployment is around 10%. I'm still out of a job after 18 months despite my education and 30 years of experience, I can't find a decent job yet. I'm in the camp that puts the real unemployment rate at 10% or higher.

The reason that only people looking for work is used as that there is really no point in counting people who don't want to work. Do you really think the number would be more accurate if it included college and graduate students, retired people, persons staying home raise their children? But to be clear, the quoted unemployment figures have nothing to do with how many people are receiving unemployment benefits. They are obtained by polling a representative sample of all households. That's why you've never been asked, only a small fraction of (all) households are surveyed each month. I'm always surprised how many people complain about figures but don't bother to take 5 minutes to learn how they're arrived at.

@Bvcp, everything Trump is doing and what he yet needs to accomplish was clearly communicated in his campaign. That's exactly the message that got him elected as our President. I think he'd have a whole lot more detractors if he stopped delivering on his promises. Go Trump.

-Bdyd: Classic! "Don't ... take the words literally". Your just like propaganda barbie Conway: “You always want to go by what's come out of his mouth rather than look at what's in his heart.” Ahhh... Yaaa, I would go with his words as an indication of his intent rather than Trumpeter spin. Yup.

The Trump detractors are all hysterical. They simply can't believe or accept they lost the election. All those Chicken Little doomsday thoughts they spew are delusional. I think most of the vocal ones we hear and read on the left are only propagandist agitators. The few others we can't help but notice are blind sheep repeating talking points or just plain ignorant. As for me, I'm happy and enjoying seeing and hearing my President everyday running rough shot over the dregs on the left. God has blessed America.

Don't be disingenuous. We all know what the concept of "America First" really means with the Trump administration. Don't look for other meanings and take the words literally. America's interests come first. While I'm not a white supremacist, nor white for that matter, I do support the America First concept. We've had our sellout politicians and socialist-leaning feelings weakening our country and respect worldwide for far too long. The pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction now. It's about time.

"America First is code for White Nationalism."...yup...and before that in the 1920-1930s it was a well used phase by those pro-fascist...so it has a long history in the USA. Hard to be leader of the Free World if no one else wishes to follow. I am not sure American is Great (again) hiding under its bed.

Plenty of Republicans are very concerned about Trump and his administration (especially Steve Bannon's role). His core supporters may think he's doung a great job, but he has record low approval ratings and he has quite a lot of concern internationally. The world is complex and he has very little understanding of it. He is consumed by television and Twitter.

The Democrats are having a nervous breakdown and the liberal media are being unmasked for who they really are, the operating wing of the opposition party. All of them are going to be steam rolled.

@zlao, Our government is accountable, now that Trump is in power. Our previous government was disingenuous and not looking out for our best interests. You also know the mainstream media has always been in the tank with Obama and never seriously questioned or critiqued him. Most Americans know our history and the importance of Language, Culture and Borders. Without them, you don't have a country. Trump is very well cognizant these things are essential to preserving our nation. This is no time to go soft.

The fact that the Trump administration has called the media the opposition is very disturbing. This is what autocratic states do: discredit the media and generate their own propaganda to manipulate the people. We're in a very precarious situation now and we ned to be vigilant about safeguarding our democracy. Conservative or liberal, we have to be vigilant about protecting civil liberties and keeping our government accountable.

We're righting the ship called USA that has strayed way off course for 8 years. Get used to a hard turn to the right for the duration of the Trump administration. Still much work to get done. For example, the Obama holdover acting US Attorney General just got her A$$ FIRED tonight by Trump and replaced by another acting AG that will defend the laws and constitution of our great country. You gotta love Trump. He's no slouch on the job. He's kicking A$$ and not taking any BS.

It's fascinating that people on this site who claim to have the truth never provide references for the source of their information, but they are happy to denigrate others' sources of information. Must be nice to have access to secret source of truth which cannot be made widely available to others.
