II honestly wonder whether many of the posts here are just venting by sour grapes or real opinions. The world has not stopped needing PCs and won't. Talk to a high school student or a college one or try living on a tablet for work. Yes phones took over but PCs and x86 servers are here to stay and all Intel has to do is churn out processors that are not grossly worse than previous generations for a constant stream of $$$. It is like a tax on every household that doesn't go away . Agreed on no growth and no new markets, and agreed on long list of failed projects. But prospects wise they are like your electric company, not going anywhere anytime soon.

OP could have been said EXACLT by IBM in the 80s, DEC in the 90s, Sun in '00... or... drum roll please... Intel in '10s. What goes around comes around!

@L7AsaHD-hau What is going to burn cash and crush margins is 10nm. The new products have no price leverage so costs will be sky high yet the Lakes will sell for same price as 14nm products they replace.
You can edit spreadsheets with Qualcomm's windows processors - if that's your thing.
The rest of the world doesn't give a sh1t about spreadsheets.
The PC is a smartphone dummy.
Wintel PC use cases are niche. That's why the unit volumes have been declining for 6 straight years.
Smartphones dominate usage.
And I suppose you think that the majority of the population really needs spreadsheets right? Leave on your horse and buggy old man.
And I suppose they use their mobile devices to create and edit complicated spreadsheets @cet? I'm thinking not. Mobile devices have their place, just not everyplace works well.
93% of people accessing Facebook do so on a mobile device old timer.
Oh yeah PCs here to stay like washing machines and dryers. Intel is Maytag and Whirlpool.

Supposed a company comes along and shows the world that ITS processors are 50% faster, far better graphics, have more options integrated and are 30% more efficient and at 50% the price? Oh and yes...can scale. That company/s Qualcom/TSMC are doing just that. 5 years ago no one cared about ARM. Today..the have the attention of the world. Intel..well..let's just say they are trying to figure out the rudders on the titantic. It is happening now. Will it have an impact today or tomorrow? No, but 3 years..YES. That is what we are all talking about. You need to cut headcount today and streamline your process and get that innovation going. Other wise, do you realize how much CA$$H you burn with 105K people? It goes fast pal.
It has mostly been a two dog race anyway (thanks IBM) and Intel does know how to make x86 processors. AMD do not have capacity to take over even if Intel rolled over and died
While I agree that PCs and servers may not go away, this type of complacency is what could bankrupt Intel eventually. Other smaller, more nimble companies (AMD?) with better, cheaper products could take most of Intel's business. At best, Intel would become a much smaller and more depressing place.
