Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Anybody In Layoff Land Been Divorced?

This topic is very relevant to the thousands of high paid professional people who are now unemployed. It is a sad, but inevitable result that this occurs as a result of losing a job with no immediate prospects available. This is often a taboo subject for a discussion forum. It happened to me and others I knew during the big meltdown of 1986-1987. Just a simple yes or no reply will suffice.

To uh1c, if a lot of respect has been lost, then the damage is already done. Your marriage may very well survive, but it will be forever different. Even if you find work next week at 200k/year, your wife will always be wondering when it will happen again. The marital scar tissue will never go away. I have been in your situation and know first hand what you are going through. You begin to question your own worth and choice of career, and if you don't keep your wits about you, you slide down that woulda, shoulda, coulda hole.

uhlc - it's widely known that having financial problems in a marriage is the leading cause for bickering, followed by divorce. This is not necessarily going to happen to you. The couple need to be honest with the situation and face reality together. Talk seriously about it and make a solid effort to look for work to restore your finances and your own sense of well being. If your spouse is not currently bring home a paycheck, see if it's an option for him/her to enter the workforce, even if temporarily. Good luck.

Yes, its been very rough. Not a divorce, but a lot of the respect is now gone even though i was the breadwinner for so many years. Its like my utility has suddenly decreased.

Yep, if being laid off is the main reason behind a divorce, then she may in fact have been nothing more then a gold digger. Just being honest.

My wife stood behind me and propped me up in what was probably the roughest part of my life. 30+ years and going strong.

Divorce after being laid off? That happens if your wife was just a gold-digging B!TCH.

I can think of a least two friends divorced within a year of being layed off. I do not know any details of their personnel storys (they were more work friends), but I do remember the frustration and life re-evaluation that happens after being laid off during a major downturn...so I do not find it particularly surprising that it happens quite often. Gloomy at the bottom of a dip!
