Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Structure? Bull Sh--!!!

They say it's not about money. We lost two ASM's. Both had been there for well over 15 years, maybe 20. We had 14 department mangers with 7 new "service manger" positions available. I am one of them. I have been there for 12 years. Not one of us that had "seniority" made the cut. There are four of us who total almost 60 years at Lowe's. We were all told to go to new departments and figure out what to do in the next year. They say it was based on ability, knowledge. What a joke! I have worked in the front, back and on the floor. Everywhere but install. I have a customer following. I have hit top in EPP's in the region. My manager has told many that I am the go to person who can figure it out. My market director has hugged me and told me how good my department looks, how good sales are, how great EPP sales are. Now my manager won't even look at me. What would he do if they offered me his job? Knowing that I would do it for less money and be grateful that I would not lose everything? By the way, I now work for a kid, who I love, Who I trained and when I was in admin, made sure he didn't work past his probation time. Gotta love where you live. It's just not with Lowe's.

I feel for you....I to was not one of the few that was choosing.....I guess 18 years means anything to them.......In those 18 years.....My team never came in below budget over course of each year...Don't know how it was done in your store...But Ray Charles could have seen how that game was played......I use to bleed blue....But not any more..Can't wait to see how this works for them.....Just wonder if they are just prettying up the numbers from look good and sell it out...Hiring part timers that know nothing to help customers that don't know exactly what they need is going to pay off?.....Really?

NY here - I was the Admin Dept Manager in my store and before that Customer Service Manager. But I didn't make the cut even though I'm the one everyone went to to solve their problems. They gave the Front Support position to someone way younger with NO experience at all. The floor positions went to some who were qualified and others who will absolutely fail. And they based it all on an interview. Garbage. And they keep us for a year just in case, no benevolence by their actions, we are insurance. The entire store is demoralized. Dumbest idea ever.

nc here - we possibly can stay with a big cut in pay but the ultimate restructuring will be to our paycheck and lifestyle, not nibbie's, and he and the board are the problem! schizophrenic steak dinner planned for us too - don't drink the kool-aid! its like the crazy boyfriend repeatedly stabbing you while screaming "i love you, love you, love you"!!!

I left Lowe's at the end of September. It was a great move. I fear for the remaining FT people on the floor, in CS and cashiers. You know the number crunchers will be coming for them next. Some of these FT will be training their replacements out of the current bunch of seasonal employees. Why pay FT and benefits when you can have PT with no benefits? Knowledge, efficiency and customer service be damned.

Ohio here. At my store, they thinned the group of 15 DM's and 5 ASM's down to 7 Service/Support Managers and 4 ASM's. Then HR had the audacity to host Employee Appreciation Day the next day complete with steak and shrimp! Gee whiz thanks. All of the ones that were cut were over 40 yrs old. Interesting huh? Wonder if the ASM's are to be restructured next, because all of the new service/support managers are doing the running of the store. They look so much better without their blue vests though :)

Ya same here in California we had 15 department Managers and 2 top paid ASM were let go and non of us that were 12 yrs plus and maxed at are pay structure were given the position as service managers the 7 that got it even if they were given a 7% increase would still not make as much as us veterans, so it is all about money in California we should be able to file a class action based on wage discrimination?

Hey, I worked with Lowe's (Slowe's) 23 years, I didn't make cut. I'm out of there in a week. Love where I live somewhere else. Forget Lowe, and I ask all of you not to shop at lowes.

I'm sorry for your loss in working for Lowes. I'm also trying to forgive the fact that the heroes project has stopped and my family must pay the price. Thank you for your time.

From looking at these threads, some managers made horrible decisions. When I went to the training for my market I was one of only 2 in a group of 27 that had less than 10 yrs with lowes. I was a store manager for 6yrs for another retailer prior to coming here and the other guy did fleet management for 20 yrs. EVERY other manager there was 10-20 yrs in and had been either a DM, specialist, or some long obsolete position in damn near every dept in the store.

This was a way for Lowes to get rid of the excess department managers. Most have at least 10 years of service and were at the top of the pay scale. I will call it a purge. but I love how the store manager and hr continue to tell me how important I am to the future of Our store and lowes. I had to do everything to control myself from bursting out in laughter. We are not in there plans. I highly doubt any of us will find other positions. and if we do we will have to take a BIG paycut.

I am in the same boat as you. I have been with Lowes for over 15 years and did not make the cut. My department was tops in sales for the store. I had a 22 % increase from LY and 12 % above budget. Both tops in the store. Everyone was stunned I did not get the promotion. So I spent the last week as a CSA training the new service manager in my area who has been with Lowes for 4 months and never worked on the sales floor before. Can we say age discrimination.
