Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Other companies are hiring like crazy.

I left for a management position at a new company and will be hiring someone from Honeywell. I've made several referrals for Honeywell colleagues, a couple of which are moving towards offers. The remainder are promising.

I was referred by a colleague that came over first. This is all in a time span on a few months. All the HR departments at other aerospace and medical companies know that the talent is flooding out of Honeywell, and they're ready to snap the talent up.

If you're looking, don't forget about new space or new aero companies as well. You might avoid slave shops like SpaceX but there's a huge need for aerospace experience out there.

Cliffy, you are making me feel better. I only had my B4 bonus stolen from me a few years ago. I quit that year. Seems like I beat the rush out the door. If there's a meaner, nastier company than HON I'd like to hear about it.

Cliffy, I hope you are being sarcastic about developing HOS. Otherwise, why would you admit to developing such a terrible system that has caused so many problems? I hope you know that about 90% of past and present Honeywell employees do not like you.

I worked for Honeywell as a VP and started what they call HOS, The company gave me a large stock grant (however never intended for it materialize) They terminated my employment before the stock could be vested. After the very successful start up of HOS at several sites, they terminated me. The President of that division (my boss) got a large promotion. Then a few years later they called me for a consulting assignment. Like a fool i accepted it. Removed more 5 million in cost from a Mexico operation and improved the customer relations. They terminated me again prior to the end of the contract. The boss got big promotion again, and Honeywell sold the company at a huge profit. Anyone who works hard and accomplishes success and Honeywell will screw you!

No one below band 5 has a non-compete at Honeywell, so don't worry.

Anyone who thinks they do needs to re-read it, you are not given anything of value, and your MIP and SIP do not count because that is offered when you hire in, read your original offer letter, no non-compete clause tied to your Bonus plan, and unless you are offered something of value exclusive to not competing, then you are not on a non-compete contract

I retired last year as a Band 4 Aero Engineer. Many of us were pressured several years ago into signing what amounts to a non-complete document that expanded on the normal non-disclosure in exchange for remaining MIP bonus eligible. It includes rights to any inventions for a year after leaving Honeywell, potential ban on going to a competitor, etc. I held out until the last day and even spent $500 getting a legal opinion of its carefully crafted legality. Bottom line seems to be that if you signed this, Honeywell could enforce according to New Jersey law. However, if you are in California things could get interesting since CA law bans that kind of thing (non-compete). Except, by signing, you agree to the NJ approach. I have had at least one potential consulting gig dissolve because of this.

hbe is right- it's a non-disclosure, not a non-compete. You can work for anyone, but can't divulge any proprietary info from HON. In some groups, sales considers customer lists to be proprietary information, so be careful with that. HON probably won't go after you. They might get called out for doing the same thing and don't want to start a legal back and forth with competitors.

Non compete agreements are rarely enforced by the courts since the right to work over rules those agreements.

When you leave you are NOT required to tell Honeywell where you are going. Just give them notice, and by the way, you are NOT required to give two weeks notice, you can give one day if you want.

When you leave, just say you are planning to retire early

It is not like Honeywell told you ahead of time anything important

The noncompete agreement specifically targets HW employees that leave the company and require you personally to not recruit other HW employees for 3 years.

Second, if you are in sales and marketing there are companies you may have to stay away from if you are a Band 5 leader. Not sure about band 4 and below

It seems to me that there is confusion between non-compete and non-disclosure agreements.

My guess is that 99% of all of these for Honeywell employees are non-disclosure. That has NOTHING to do with non-competition. The only people who usually get non-competes are principles in a startup company. Non-disclosures usually just say you can't disclose company information & proprietary data to another company/employer.

I tend to agree with you on the non-compete and whether it could be enforced, but I am in sales and the business has made threats about going after salespeople that jump to a competitor. I don't know of any situations where they have pursued it, but I know several people that have offers on the table and are evaluating whether it's worth the risk.

The non compete is just a scare tactic, it is no legal to tell someone they can't work for a company at what they know, it's all bull s***t!!!

Does anyone have any advice on how to address non-competes when going to a competitor? I work in HBT and have a great offer from a competitor but am concerned about how/if Honeywell will handle the non-compete that they made all of us sign.
