Capital One just did this too. Move or be fired. We only had 4 choices of cities to move to, none of them appealing.

Got laid off from IBM 2 1/2 years ago (for the 2nd time) and couldn't be happier. Recent comments about the caustic environment and purge of older / expensive employees continues to be true. There was once a time when IBM believed in "Respect for the Individual". Those days are long gone!!!

Good luck to all that are now looking for new employment. Happier days are ahead!!!

Good ridden's IBM!!!

IBM brings out the worst in people. You are better off leaving Big Blue and seeking better opportunities elsewhere. My department was outsourced a few years ago and my final day at IBM was literally the happiest day on the job because I was leaving behind a toxic atmosphere and a position which I despised.

Learn from the experience and then cut your losses and move on. You will be infinitely happier in the long run.

They are doing the same thing in the US as well, this is what upper mgt does instead of innovating & growing the company they spend more time trying to figure out more ways to screw the employees. They are also requiring all the employees that work from home to report to the nearest office if they live within a certain distance. After they tally up how many leave on their own I'm sure the layoffs will start back up. And congratulations to Ginni on her $5MIL bonus... the only goal she made on her checkpoint is continuing to destroy a once great company!

It is a way to get rid of workers -- period. This is a thinly veiled RA. Even younger people aren't going to want to uproot themselves on a whim with no guarantee of avoiding a layoff and no cost of living change. Plus they can't choose which of the six locations to work from. This is awful.
