Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Today's Stock Price Makes Me Acutely Realize How Bad Things Really Are.

I feel l like I need my head examined to still be working at Sears. Granted I need the income obviously but it's getting more difficult to keep up the charade that this is normal employment.

Everyday I have to tell myself to work like my company isn't going bankrupt by the minute. To act like it's a stable job and to do the best job that I can. I'm friendly & respectful to my coworkers but I wonder what they're thinking about all this. The unwritten rule at my store is to act like everything is ok.

I have no problem treating the customers well. They run up against so many walls just trying to shop there that I try to make it a more pleasant experience for them.

I just wish the manager would drop the pretense that any of the SYW, 5321, etc initiatives are going to make a difference. So we could focus on whatever you focus on when your company is closing. He wants to do his job how Corp mandates & to an extent I can't blame him but I feel like we're wasting our days pretending because it's - not - going -to - get - better.

Psychologically, this is taking a toll. How do those of you on here deal with it?

Our store is very open about everything that's happening. Half of them know of this website. Hell even the store manager jokes with us about the stock. We had an hour long conversation about fraudulent conveyance yesterday. If the ships going down we might as well teach the staff economics.

My store also has the unapoken all is well rule. I have had people come in ask me what is going on with Sears, I tell them my store is doing fun even though what I really want to tell them is to stop asking people who work the floor at the stores. I know more about what is going on through my own that what has been provided through internal channels. My store is still toting the line that selling Craftsman was a good thing that will benefit all. I think it is a sign of desperation, off loading profitable brand names for monetary payments and then use that money to pay depts owned by a company Eddy Lampert owns and when sears files for bankruptcy craftsman can't be touched. I think that soon they will announce buyers for Kenmore and Diehard and one they are sold Sears Holding will close up shop and declare bankruptcy. Squeezed as much money as he can oit of Sears and Kmart and into other companies that own sears debts will help to ensure those companies get their money back while other who are owed money will be left fighting each other for scraps.

There are two groups of managers in this company: those that know what's going on but just toe the line to keep their job, or those that are completely in denial that Sears is not long for the world.

After a while, you can tell which ones fit in either category.
