Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I work in in-homes services. We are being told (upper management) we will be fine. We turn profit...and will be sold. What do you all think?

the reputation of in home servies is in the toilet and most companies will not buy the name. They may buy the customer list but not the headaches that SHC has created with bad service and high prices and supplies. Most techs would be layed off except a few in profitable markets. Whoever buys them would already have their own employees and structure and it would cost too much to retrain and re-structure a new division. Upper management may be retained until the transition period is over.

I guess you could work for whomever picks up the contracts.

You'll most likely be fine. Our service department might be only profitable thing. If sears goes out of business someone will buy it out & pick up all the contracts.

How are the trucks and equipment in Home Services? Are they old, run down? If most of the trucks, tools equipment is old and run down like the stores who would pay top dollar for it? If they have nice stuff then I would see them being bought but only for a much less price than you would think. IF SHC is so hard up for cash why would I pay top dollar when I can squeeze them for a bargain.

Agree, with if you are in management you will probably be gone. No company wants old ways and old business philosophies to be left in the new company.

I think it will be a sell off off piece meal but if you are absorbed the lower down the food chain the more safe your job . All managers and upper management would be removed.. The new broom analogy holds true on these things. No way any SHLD ideology will survive a new company.

Home service is likely the only part of SHLD that turns a profit. Technicians are like commidities to be bought or sold. In home service does so much cash and third party business it wouldnt make financial sence to let your cash cows disperse. My guess is they may sell parts of the nationwide network separately. If you think Sears or AE service is bad, wait until you have mom and pops trying trying to run an additional 10 million service calls annualy. Manufacturers and Home Warranty programs would need to hire their own fleet again or be inundated with complaints. Service is not an easy business to run. The manufactures will either need to make products better or continue to have a vested interest in keeping control of Service Providers. If you are a service tech in todays world and know what you are doing, feel good knowing that your service is in demand for the foreseeable future

home services is linked to mother ship sears and will go down with her.... too difficult to split off and worth little in any case.

I'm the original poster. The moral is horrible with all the compliance stuff. The unbelievable demanding nature on sales. I've only been here for a couple of years and just can't believe how this company has lost total focus. Repairing customer appliances and making them happy is the business model...not anymore. It has become the least of their worries. It's constant questioning of the technicians and what they do. Technicians are not trusted...but we trust them when it comes to sales only. 10-15 calls a day...get ahead...get more. Tech runs ahead calls are added...run behind...no one cares. Technicians are leaving left and right. I have never seen a company that treats thier employees so poorly. Don't perform the way they want you to...hours cut...or lay off.

Fat chance. I expect the equipment, trucks, contracts, ect. To be sold at bankruptcy. I also expect all employees to be fired.

So the division will probably be sold piece meal.
