I am with Sears, however the same stuff I hear about going on in Kmart is going on in Sears. We may be with different stores but we are all facing the same issues. Stores that have not been invested in or properly maintained for years and even decades, minimal staffing, minimal pay and metrics demands that keep growing. I have a store manager telling us how we need to take a "member" who came in for a $20 item they need and sell them $100 in other stuff, have them use or sign up for shop your way and have them use or sign up for a credit card; all while being staffed so thin that I have to beg people in other departments to keep an eye on mine so I can use the toilet. I work in the tool department, when people come in they either know what they need and want to buy it and get back to work, are looking around while loved ones shop elsewhere or know what the need, quickly find it and look to see if there is anything they forgot about. The layout also leaves several way for people to enter tools, so much so that when it is slow I check to see if anyone is in my department that I didn't see come in. I have given up on getting any breaks and only count on getting lunch and bathroom breaks if I can find someone who is not busy. Luckily there are six people who will cover me if they are working, unfortunately four of them know nothing about tools and if someone comes in to tools before I can run to the restroom they will stop me so I can help them before I go. I have had to hold it for over an hour one because people needed help and no one was willing to come over and even run a register. I even had a manager upset with me becouse I decided to go to the restroom as soon as my coworker returned from lunch; she was upset that I wanted to go when it was close to the end of my shift. I tried to explain that I have given up on getting breaks an only take lunch and the occasional bathroom break and water fountain break since we cannot have any bottles on the floor. She was upset that we didn't set up our break schedule better. I spent over twenty minutes trying to explain to her that I gave up on getting breaks and that I needed to use the toilet. Why would I think I could get break when the first four hours of my eight hour shift I am alone and management wants to go to lunch by four and half hours in. As far as I can tell she still does not get that I cannot plan on getting breaks. Ultimately I think she was in my area to nit pick and bug us till we got some credit apps seeing as her management role is to drive swy and credit.
