Luckily for Verizon, our media is so corrupt that besides Bruce Kushnick nobody wants to investigate them. Sad.
Bell Atlantic launched Bell Atlantic Mobility by issuing bonds which had to be paid back, with interest. This nonsense about sinking the wireline profits in to wireless is a false narrative. That seed money was paid back long ago. And then some based on the ongoing profits.
Paying 130bln to buy out Vodafone so we could go invest in being a media company was a terribly expensive mistake that we will be paying the price of for a long, long time.
When IT became the ruling class at VZ we lost much of our sanity. Bundle that with horrifically bad Strategies, execs making knee jerk decisions based on heresay or VLSS monkey numbers... we end up here. Sad but true.

Uh, what wireline leaders are in charge of wireless now? All the wireless guys took over the entire company after Ivan retired. They're the ones making these decisions.

I guess Vz wireless should have started their own company then, instead of seeding it with all the profits of the "dinosaur" telco (which by the way is still used, no large business would run on wireless and very few homes use wireless for their home internet unless of course they have no choice).
Don't you think owning the network gave VZ an advantage over other wireless companies? But now the advantage is gone, the party is over and the check has been brought to the table.

Let's repeat the title of this post and all the comments ad nauseum so the little union guy can understand: THINGS WERE BETTER WHEN WIRELESS WAS ON ITS OWN. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
Look at some of the competition that isn't burdened by an expensive telco that does business like it was 50 years ago and you will see they can undercut on price. Why you ask? Because they don't have the HIGH operating costs and inefficiencies of a dinosaur telco on their back.

Nothing grows forever. We are all swept up by the forces of our times. Global labor market, dwindling network superiority, market saturation... This was all predicted a couple years ago, even "stupid, lazy union workers" got it so why couldn't you? Aren't you the "smart" ones? Maybe you are only half- smart.
Why couldn't the leadership predict this? I guess maybe they did.. but they don't have to worry, life is good when you have a 40 million dollar parachute in your CONTRACT. (Talk about "entitled").
So now you know why the other VZ employees were miserable, you have lost your shine...they don't need you anymore and they never cared about you.... yet still you cry with bitter tears your hate for unions!

For its size Wireless used to be a fairly quick and nimble business unit and could drive new technology to market incredibly fast. VzW was ALWAYS bringing the new tech to market faster and better than Sprint Temo and ATT.. I bet my inevitable severance check that another carrier launches 5g before Vz. Wireless has become an absolute turd since the Vodaphone buyout. No one manages results, we just manage the metrics. Silos have gone up all over wireless, the managment is afraid to make a decision about ANYTHING. So, Let's take a fast, dynamic bleeding edge company and let the phone company manage it. Stupid.
Last post is rights target, the laziest group of people i onow, after the union workers, I do work with them , simple projects last years...
@dvk - I can't agree with you more. I worked in IT on the wireline side. The VPs, BAs, Directors, Managers and developers were the laziest, dumbest morons I ever worked with in my life. And that is before the moved everything offshore. Now they are lazier and dumber than ever. They are pretty much collecting a paycheck hoping to last for a bone (severance) from their masters.
Not just teh union folks even teh IT folks. Look at their processes. How many H1-Bs does it take to make a change in production systems?

I agree as well. I started with Cellular One and all was good until the buyout. The company never was the same and it is spiraling downhill at warp speed now. Glad I got out last year!
I agree with this post. Verizon Wireless was great until Verizon Communication got a hold of it and everything went to $hit.
Benefits went down, layoffs skyrocketed, processes became less efficient because we had to adopt to slow and inefficient Verizon Communication processes and polices. And worst of all, everything we did became about the stock price when previously it was about the customers and employees.
Worst of all, Verizon Communications employees are a miserable and bitter lot. Especially the union folks. I have never seen a group of lazier, entitled people in my life with the exception of government employees. And they hated us wireless employees from day one because we operated at a much faster pace.
Way to take something and completely destroy it Lowell.
I am sure the union trolls will chime in here about how I am a loser and I don't get all the stuff they get blah blah blah... Flame on.
