Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Layoffs coming late Feb or early Mar

Layoffs are coming in Feb or March, with 4-5 round through 2017. And for those on MyWork, the program is in the target again. Although they "say" they support the program, they will be moving EVERYONE to a core facility or be releasing them...in all areas. None of this should be a surprise as Management only "creative" idea to improve numbers is get rid of people...shame they can't think of any revenue generating ideas, only easy ones like getting rid of people. Good luck everyone!

Top performer working in a satellite office for over 10 years, over 50, and laid off. I was within a reasonable distance and willing to commute to a hub, but wasn't selected. It had nothing to do with me or my performance and everything to do with the fact that they just don't want to pay my salary and benefits. They can load up the remaining full-time, permanent employees until they're done with them and go with contractors, who they don't have to pay high salary and benefits to. That's literally the bottom line. Every single person I spoke with in this round had the same profile as me. It's hurtful. And here's the kicker...I had OT in my last week because we're that busy!

Re the VPN comment, you only have to keep your hours below 72 hours per month between the hours of 8AM and 5PM in your local time zone. So, if you work an alternate shift (say 5am-2pm) and log off at lunch you can really push it to the point where you work from home 3 days a week. Let me know if anything has changed but these were the rules a couple years ago.

VPN is monitored so if you're not on the My Work program you need to keep your hours below 72 each month. Some people don't respect the fact they are allowed that flexibility. Only work from home a few days within a month if you have that option, log off VPN for your lunch break and don't work over an 8hr shift.

A good employee is a good employee regardless of where they work from. They will make sure they do their job and do it well. A short sighted/misguided emplpyee is one who thinks the location you work from and your other obligations disqualify you as a good employee. Plenty of people who work in an office during working hours don't produce and typically an employee given an opportunity like a flex schedule or location will do whatever they can not to lose that. They log in earlier, stay on later, and ensure a job well done.

A crappy employee is a crappy employee no matter where they work from.

People who do not perform should be removed from the program. Spineless managers who let that continue ruined the entire program for all. Shame on those who game the system and shame on the bank for letting it happen.

I feel bad for everyone with sick parents or spouses but I'm also over my peers sitting at home supposedly working while they take care of their kids. The work they do is never 100% and rest of our group have to repeatedly fix their mistakes. Your working hours are designed to work and not take care of family.

does anybody know if these are working layoffs -- where they let you stay for 60 days to look for a job?

We just hired someone on my team as a "my work" employee. This person was already in the program and was allowed to transfer to our team and keep their status with no requirement to give up this perk. Someone sent me a job posting a few weeks ago that was "virtual" and allowed applicants who are already in the My work program. We have heard the "targeting of my work" is a way to get rid poor performers that leadership is too cowardly to manage out. Something isn't right here. It seems like all these posts are talking about different companies? Not the same one. Is it that discontinuing the program is up to senior leadership in your organization? It doesn't seem like there is any enterprise wide guidance.

Targeting people that work from home is typical of an organizational leadership that just doesn't know what they're doing! Too bad the performance of the people making the cuts isn't important as their performance may need some attention if all they can do to increase revenue is to make cuts!

There are literally hundreds of people in my org still in the My work program. They have direct reports who have direct reports -- all still in the program. There are probably 300-400 people in total in the org, with 2/3 in the my work program -- spread out all over the country. If all these My work layoffs happened, it would wipe out nearly the entire organization. That would not make sense.

The vpn reports are still being monitored.

Living 100 miles away will not matter unfortunately! I lived 100 plus miles away and I got laid off working from home! I was a top performer and had just received a nice raise for all my hard work! I was also 5 and half months pregnant. It does not matter where you live or how you perform! I was a dedicated employee to this bank for many years and loved what I did! None of that matter! I would update your resume and come to terms with the fact, you will probably be laid off! I'm shocked that my work employees are even still around.. good luck!

From what I've heard, the ONLY exceptions for MyWork are if a position is deemed critical and there's no easy way to replace...so if you can be replaced by someone in a core location you're gone. They don't care about person issues, those are you problem. Exceptions are for business reasons only. If you're in a core location already then you aren't under the MyWork headhunting banner, but you're still subject to layoffs of course. Good luck, I hope the information I've heard is wrong but this comes from several sources.

What about people that just wfh and went off my work to avoid this? Are they still doing the VPN hours tracking? Those people will be unaffected I assume?

Regarding layoffs for My Work people -- what about those who live far away? or care for elderly or disabled? I live over 100 miles away from a core site, care for an elderly parent who is extremely frail with several medical issues and have a disabled spouse. I am hoping exceptions will be recognized.
