I work in SSG on a project that is poorly managed with almost no accountability. Employees and management can pretty much do nothing all day and suffer no consequences. We have meetings here and there and folks pretend to work but everyone knows that at its core, our project is a rook and a plunder. Eventually, the project will die, but still, no one will be held accountable. I would rather have a real job and have to earn my paycheck than to have to keep playing this depressing game. I'm not sure how much longer I can do this. My manager is a con and he's conning all the way up the chain. We have a large team s---ing some high salaries from Intel. It's astonishing that this type waste goes undetected by upper management.

Lots of SSG mmanagers and some PEs do not know how to write code, don't know operating system basics.

It happens when the management from the top to bottom is incompetent, not fit for purpose. These ones will even buy snake oil without much doubt.

I guess you are saying this is all "fake work".
This is the heart of the problem at Intel: projects (and funding) are prioritized based on internal politics and BS rather than what the market really needs (or what has the most market potential).
How many times did I spend nights and weekends to deliver something completely useless and meaningless on time for a made-up internal deadline (and not a customer) just to tell DB or some other schmedlap (so that my GM could get the next "hit" of internal funding)?
Until Intel fundamentally changes, that's the job.

when someone is being paid a significant salary and all they have to do is show their face in the office, then most any person would start rationalizing which makes it difficult to get out of work prison. They tell themselves that it's easy money and that they would be stupid to quit. I know of two people who eventually started their own company and now run their personal businesses while working their Intel job.
OP, what you describe is normal in many groups. Budgets are freely given out and there is little accountability. What matters are office politics, who are you buddies with and whose turf you are in. Look at DO's MIT and DB's DCG. Big budgets and little accountability, lots of politicking on a daily basis! Under BK, MIT have grown huge with blank cheques due to DOs close relationship with BK.
As long as x86 continue being a cash cow which will continue for the foreseeable future due to lack of alternatives (x86 ecosystem), this environment will continue!
