GE, Brexit and the effect on manufacturing in the U.K.

Hello,

With GE taking over and then Brexit happening, do you think they (GE) will continue to manufacture in the U.K., or will they move these sorts of activities overseas?

I ask this, as I hear lots of talk from various news outlets about how certain things, manufacturing being one, will be far too expensive in the U.K.

A concerned wife.

Nah they'll move it to eastern Europe even if the facility there knows nothing about the product line as from my experience they'll give the reason of cost savings of 75%...but good luck anyways.

Manufacturing will certainly be moved if it makes economic and political sense to do so. While companies cannot afford to continually lose money by keeping a facility open they sometimes do if closing a place would impact other parts of the company business. GE is enormous and sells a lot of 'stuff' to every country around the world so they tread carefully in order not to 'upset' politicians. Small facilities here and there will likely remain open. The bulk of manufacturing moves to where it is cheapest, and makes the company the most money.
