I feel like my VPSM is living in denial.... how the heck are we going to operate with only 2 SMs!?!? I am one and the other is an unqualified JBM that was NOT ASSESSED! We lost SMs who never should have been let go and the JBM should have been reassigned as a--. It is a mess.

The best one was when our store manager was handing out stupid candy canes during the holidays one day while the 3 associates in my dept were working lines 10 people deep while trying to help people find things! And this dingbat wants to hand out candy canes? One guy was like "I'm diabetic! I don't want your candy. Just take me somewhere to ring out!" Lol. that's MAGIC for ya! Lol

A couple comments up I DIED LAUGHING when a poster wrote "stop hanging out water and bags of popcorn." I legit bust out laughing and couldn't stop for a good two mins. It's soooo true and all the stress lately that comment made me feel like I'm not going crazy that their priorities are so screwed up. Get the top brass in the stores to run the front lines for just one hour and see some manager try and hand a bag of "magic" popcorn in the middle of the chaos-- they couldn't!!!! -- id smack that popcorn out their hands and demand staffing!

I was one of the Sales Managers kept. Not because im super young and not because im cheap. I think "Some" of us were kept based on experience. Each day has been a 10-12 hour day, running around trying to be put out fires with customers. My EIC phone rings non stop, Im talking trying to put out one fire and 3 more calls are coming through. There is nobody that knows anything but myself and the Store Manager. They want me to train a supervisor and lead that knows nothing, not even how to do an override. Nobody knows .com and how to run instore BOPS and Fulfillment but me. Nobody knows Fine Jewelry processes and procedures in my store, but me. I can not be the store's savior but that is what feels like is being put on my shoulders. I will not be able to keep up with this, the non stop phone calls at home because nobody knows how to do anything (Today I actually powered my phone off so I can have a break), nor the 10-12 hour shifts. This all is not going to work and its so bad people are just now calling out (tenured associates) because they can see the writing on the wall. 12

Magic starts with actually staffing the store to take care of customers! 2 associates coverIng 20,000 sq ft with walls in the middle ! Stop trying to come up with gimmicks to provide an experience in the store. . Handing out bottled water and bags of pop corn !

MST/.com is also a mess. The same things are happening here, sorry if something breaks and doesn't get fixed the same day (it's because we're also struggling like you). So far I've survived 2 years of job cuts and chaos. Lots of management has either left, been let go or retired. We are so thin spread it's ridiculous. Consultants are being brought in for everything, offshore workers are being hired while U.S. based workers are being limited. Projects are being limited to 90 days. People are now moved around on a yearly basis. Support teams have no idea who to contact. Micromanagement is at an all time high, we're being audited left and right. Employees don't want to speak up. The worst part of it all is that the company is not listening to customers. These are customers that want to support macys and want to shop at macys. Let's hope we can get out before the ship breaks in two :)

Complete mess. Clearly on a sinking ship and management is running around acting like everything is fine. Preaching the whole Magic BS like a bunch of trained puppets. Most Associates are looking for new work. The older once who've been there longest are in the toughest spot. The let go of good managers and kept the cheaper idiots. Clearly was not based on performance or seniority. Our store looks like a pitiful sears or Kmart now and all they care about is MAGIC! What about profit! Clueless idiots running the stores and the company.
