Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Re: losing commission. Hiring signs for commissioned sales at my store....

...and we don't really need anybody! Our tools/L&G and mattresses/appliances departments are staffed adequately. Nobody is quitting, there is no reason I could think of for our store to have a hiring event.

Could they be trying to get "replacements" in before they do away with commission, since associates on commission will leave in droves after this is done?

Any other store hiring all of the sudden (when we just let go seasonal help a little over a month ago)?

I wouldn't read too much into it. The company isn't smart enough to be figuring they will need people after all the commission people quit. It's just typical corporate stuff. With the incredible turnover in the retail business, they need to be recruiting all the time. They never know when jobs will need to be filled. And there are people in these organizations who make their living doing this work. It doesn't matter what the stores really need, they need to keep their "human resources" jobs. So the hiring and training processes continue right up until the stores close.

It's all show. We had a now hiring sign up for mounths but I don't think there was really a plan to hire anyone. If customers see hiring signs it makes them think that everything must be all right. Either that or the HR forgot/never got around to taking it down (which had also happened in the past lol)

It's all about appearances these days. Nobody asks WHY all these layoffs are occuring, just assumes it's a company specific thing.

Nope!

The only reason there aren't millions of layoffs happening right now is large companies are purposefully holding onto far more employees than they need, to maintain the status quo.

Hint: We did not recover from 2008, we just blew up massive debt bubbles in cars, houses, the stock market, etc.

That will drive some "growth" for a while, but it's plastic, and won't last. We're now in the day when all that cover up is falling off, and the truth will soon be revealed. Don't make any long term plans for retirement...
