Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Its about the $$

Seems like there is an inverse relationship between the CSCO stock price and the frothiness of the discussions here. As an example......current CSCO price is > USD $32/share. Banter here........almost none.

Takeaway: Values, 'outrage' and righteousness have a price tag. Its all about the money.....

In our team, of about 50 Engineers, I think many of us did get very small payrises - no more than a couple of percent at most. A very thin layer of goodwill was spread across (presumably) most of the remaining team to try and deflect attention away from the 3 engineers that lost their jobs via LR the previous week. It really was disgusting behaviour but we have come to expect nothing less from Cisco at this stage.

Is that really true about everybody getting a raise? If so, what percentage of salary was the increase?

I can't validate the truth, and doubt anyone can speak to anyone other than themselves, but I heard there were a lot of raises in Sept. Didn't doubt it given all the talks pre-LR about an effort to equalize wages across people in the same pay grades.

If you havent noticed profits have been growing through opex cuts and with more profit growth forecasted yet revenue forecasted down it means more opex cuts are coming. Its the same ol same ol, remember what Mark Hurd did to HP? You are watching the exact same thing happen here and look what they have had to do to get that ship somewhat righted. Remember shareholders come first customers second and employees last well behind the executive team. I am actually somewhat surprised that with the last quarter revenue and next quarter forecast that the stock went up! See ANET stock? Thats what growth looks like as they are continually taking share from Cisco every single quarter, Routing down, Switching down, Data Center down, those 3 alone account for about 40% of Cisco revenue

A toxic environment that is only getting worse. GTF out Before you get shot. And if you do get shot, you will love the freedom from the brainwashing.

And if you want to stay in technology, then go work for a competitor that will ultimately kick the $hit out of Cisco.

A joke of a company with a bunch of circus clowns running the asylum

Agreed. It's not a place for a career anymore. Just a job unless you are a Grade 12 or above. For them it's about positioning/posturing and keeping the gravy train going. Drive down costs by canning older more expensive employees and replace them with H1Bs and college new hires all to save your own overpaid a$$es.

Who care about stock? No options, no RSU for grade 12 and below.

@daj: "A 'coin operated' workforce."

I would have less a problem with it when management and ELT would be honest about it. Not necessarily a nice environment but at least mentally sane, instead of the Orwellian newspeak we have.

Do you work for free?

Seriously? There's no money in it. Options are gone. RSUs are rare.

The banter will return when US based LRs start again. It has been a while, that's all.

Do you want people to be constantly outraged? Isn't it nice that there's been a bit of a break from it for once? Geez.

Good point. Probably explains the raise everyone who didn't get LR'd received in November 2016. They paid for peace and quiet and got it, for a few months.

A 'coin operated' workforce.
