Intel is going to nowhere. Apple needs Intel fabs, modem, connectivity,... to compete with Samsung.
Intel grow pace is slow for several years, time to consolidation.

Intel should buy Apple at stock price of 200 so I can retire.
It will buy only if it can buy it without its toxic culture. That means 90% of employees should be fired.

BK will be fired. And Murthy will end up being the next Intel CEO, pitching mobility as the answer. Intel will lose even more focus as it goes head to head with Qualcomm, as this will be Murthy's vendetta against QC. He will fail miserably trying. Meanwhile, with Murthy at the helm, he will defocus Intel on desktop and server, allowing Nvidia and AMD to move into what Murthy will claim to be a declining business. Intel will lose even more.marketshare in its once bread and butter core businesses and lose an edge.
Murthy, as a last ditch effort will get Intel to jettison fab, and outsource fab to TSM or Samsung, and then try to play catch-up on X86, after a huge layoff. By that time, it may be too late.
Murthy will leave Intel with a nice golden parachute, leaving Intel in worse shape than BK.

Apple loves nothing better than a failing and desperate Intel as stand alone company.
It makes Intel bid on modems against Qualcomm and others.
It keeps TSMC honest with pricing by teasing Intel and Samsung. But Intel fabs are of little interest nor is Intel silicon technology. Today TSMC fabs are bigger and more cost efficient and TSMC 16 and 10nm superior to Intel process and price.
Buying Intel would be like mimicking Intel stupid purchase of Infineon, Altera, or Mcafee. Apple management not as stupid as Intel. Even with all their profits they don't waste it like the Intel idiots.
BK the clown will be fired in 2018 as most of TMG management due to 10nm failure. New mange the will split out the company and leave the fabs for some stupid investor. Chinese would love to buy but Trump will stop that. Server and other groups will look to TSMC for manufacturing as TMG sinks
